White drunk rides lawn mower to liquor store

 Living dangerously

drunk-on-mower.jpg

ADRIAN, Mich. – A man was charged with drunken driving after going through two bottles of wine, cutting through a snowstorm on his lawn mower and riding down the center of the street to reach a liquor store, authorities said.

Police found Frank Kozumplik, 49, homeward bound on a John Deere tractor Saturday night, toting four bottles of wine in a paper bag, officials said.

He told officers that his wife had taken their car to work, and that the mower was the only way he could reach the store, two miles from home.

His blood alcohol level was 2 1/2 times Michigan’s legal driving limit of 0.08 percent, police told WLEN-FM. They arrested him and confiscated the mower.

Kozumplik declined to comment Monday night.

White man electrocutes wife during sex

Why do white people degrade themselves like this? Next time, use a surge protector.

ht_taylor_080125_ms.jpg

A woman died during a night of “bizarre sex” in which her husband used an electrical cord to stimulate her, but ended up shocking her, police said.

Kirsten Taylor, 29, was found unconscious Wednesday night at the couple’s Lower Windsor Township home. She was taken to York Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Toby Taylor first said his wife was shocked by a hair dryer, according to a police affidavit. But when burns were found on her body, police said Taylor told them he had clipped an electrical cord to his wife and plugged it into a power strip, which he then turned on and off.

He told authorities the couple had used the technique before.

Taylor, 37, was jailed Thursday in lieu of $100,000 bail on involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment charges. He did not have a lawyer at his arraignment and no lawyer had been entered in his court file as of Friday.

York County Coroner Barry Bloss called it a case of “bizarre sex.”

“I have never seen anything like this,” Bloss said. “Even if you did it before, you have to know you could kill someone.”

The township police chief, David Sterner, said the jolt of electricity is believed to have triggered a heart attack in the woman.

An initial autopsy did not determine the cause of death, Bloss said. A final determination awaits further testing of the electrical equipment and a toxicology test, he said.

Suspected rogue trader Jerome Kerviel costs Societe Generale $8bn

The $8 billion dollar man!

0585766800.jpg

THE biggest rogue trader scandal in history hit Societe Generale overnight as the French bank accused a junior employee of a fraud costing $US7 billion ($8.03 billion).

France’s central bank and government scrambled to shore up confidence in the banking system after “SocGen”, France’s second-biggest bank, told investors already battered by the credit crisis that it had been the victim of massive and “exceptional” fraud.

Trading losses spiralled to €4.9 billion ($US7.1 billion) as the bank tried to close out the rogue positions in Tuesday’s sliding market.

Some investors wondered whether the bank’s manoeuvres had contributed to that day’s market fall, and to the US Federal Reserve’s decision to cut interest rates.

A Fed source said the central bank had not been aware of SocGen’s problems ahead of the emergency 75 basis point cut.

‘A genius of fraud’

The country’s top banker dubbed the trader “a genius of fraud”. SocGen declined to give a name, but three sources at the bank named him as Jerome Kerviel, 31, a trader on the bank’s award-winning equity derivatives desk earning less than €100,000 a year.

Mr Kerviel could not be reached for comment.

A picture of him cut from a trading website showed an earnest-looking young man.

At the start of the afternoon, when his identity was revealed, he had 11 friends listed on the facebook.com social website.

That number later dropped to four.

Outstrips Nick Leeson

If fraud is proved, the loss will be the biggest caused by a single trader, dwarfing the $US1.4 billion loss by trader Nick Leeson that broke British bank Barings, and the $US2.6 billion Sumitomo Corp lost in rogue copper trades in the 1990s.

It also eclipses a $US6 billion-plus loss racked up by hedge fund Amaranth trader Brian Hunter and his team ahead of the fund’s collapse in 2006.

Lehman Brothers CEO and Chairman Richard Fuld called the debacle “everyone’s worst nightmare” and investors, wary of recent financial turmoil, were incredulous.

Markets ‘a big casino’

“We get the feeling that the financial markets have become a big casino which has lost control. It seems incredible that the Societe Generale can lose five billion through one operator,” said Alain Crouzat, a portfolio manager at Montsegur Finance.

Societe Generale Chairman Daniel Bouton offered to resign but was asked to stay on by the board.

Shares in SocGen, which has a market capitalisation of about €36 billion, fell more than four per cent to €75.81.

Traders said the shares were cushioned from further falls after the French financial establishment moved quickly to shore up SocGen’s shattered capital.

One of France’s oldest banks but a world leader in free-wheeling modern financial derivatives, SocGen said the losses came to light at the weekend when it found that a junior trader had tried to cover up bad bets on the stock market.

Instead of beating a path to cash-rich sovereign wealth funds, as some US banks have done during the recent credit slump, SocGen announced a capital increase of €5.5 billion and said this had already been underwritten by other banks.

French PM weighs in

France’s prime minister reassured investors that SocGen’s woes were isolated from the malaise sweeping global financial markets after a meltdown in US sub-prime credit markets.

“It is a serious case, but at the same time it has nothing to do with the situation on the financial markets,” Francois Fillon, speaking in Davos, Switzerland.

In addition to the fraud, however, SocGen unveiled a further writedown of €2.05 billion related to the credit crunch.

The Bank of France launched an investigation into the trades.

The central bank’s governor Christian Noyer said SocGen had been able to overcome the crisis because it was solid.

“Today we have seen that there was a glitch in the system that was exploited by someone who I think got round five successive risk control systems so who was without doubt a genius of fraud,” Mr Noyer said.

Shiver though banking world

The announcement sent a shiver through the world banking industry, which is suffering from the credit crunch as high-risk US mortgage borrowers default on their loans.

SocGen accused the trader of taking “massive fraudulent” positions in 2007 and 2008 on European equity market indexes, meaning he was gambling on broad movements in share prices.

When the bank discovered the hidden trades on January 19 and 20, it decided to close the positions in the market quickly.

But this coincided with a market rout, and the bank ended up nursing losses of €4.9 billion – close to its net 2006 profit. SocGen said it expected a 2007 net profit of just &euro million to €800 million.
The trader has been suspended and faces a formal sacking and and a legal complaint from Societe Generale, which is in turn already being sued by a group of 100 angry shareholders.

Criminal investigation

French police announced a criminal probe.

Like Leeson before him, the trader apparently benefited from knowledge of the bank’s control systems after working in the back office of its trading rooms, according to SocGen.

It said he had used a “scheme of elaborate fictitious transactions” to try to cover up his mistakes, but did not accuse him of profiting personally from his actions.

“He was not one of our stars,” said a senior board member.

Others said the crisis at SocGen, one of the top 10 banks in the eurozone by market value, could spell trouble elsewhere.

“The most serious thing is that this puts into doubt the risk-management systems at some banks,” said Fortis analyst Carlos Garcia.

Analysts said the episode would have a major impact on the reputation of SocGen, which was founded in 1864.

Several said the bank, which has for years been coveted by larger French rival BNP Paribas, could face a battle to remain independent. Shares in BNP rose seven per cent.

White Lesbian killers smile at sentencing

Lesbian vampire killers? Whites sure are creative when it comes to murder.TWO lesbian killers who murdered a 16-year-old girl for being annoying smiled at each today as a Perth court was told it took their victim half an hour to die.

Jessica Ellen Stasinowsky, 20, and her girlfriend Valerie Paige Parashumti, 19, pleaded guilty in December to the wilful murder of Stacey Mitchell.

They admitted in the West Australian Supreme Court to killing Stacey in December 2006 while the girl was staying with them at a house at Lathlain in Perth.

Her body was later found in a wheelie bin in the back shed of the house.

During sentencing submissions today, prosecutor David Dempster described how Parashumti bludgeoned Stacey with a concrete block while Stasinowsky strangled her with a dog chain.

The two girls grinned and grimaced at each other as Mr Dempster told the court it took their victim half an hour to die.

Their expressions drew a rebuke from Justice Peter Blaxell.

The court was told the lovers videoed themselves mocking Stacey’s semi-naked body, over which they kissed.

They later forced a 15-year-old boy to watch the mobile phone footage and made him help clear up the blood.

Parashumti’s lawyer, David Edwardson QC said his client was part of a vampire sub-culture and had been interested in drinking blood since she was 10.

But he told the court Parashumti insisted this had nothing to do with the killing.

Instead, his client appeared to be partly motivated by a desire to dispel any notion she may have been sexually interested in Stacey.

“Both women appeared to be obsessed with proving their commitment to each other,” Mr Edwardson said.

Under West Australian law, wilful murder carries a mandatory life sentence of at least 15 years in jail, although the sentencing judge can set a higher minimum time.

The hearing continues.

White nurse rapes elderly stroke patient

Not the sort of health care coverage patients need, or want.

SANDUSKY, Ohio – A night-shift nurse accused of sexually abusing at least two dozen elderly or disabled patients at a nursing home was in jail Wednesday, authorities said.

Many of the victims at Concord Care and Rehabilitation Center were unable to report the abuse, and some have since died, said Perkins Township Police Chief Tim McClung.

Police said that suspect John Riems, 49, recalled abusing nearly 100 patients during a 20-year career but that he could remember specific information only on 24.

Riems, 49, pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Sandusky Municipal Court to felony charges of rape and gross sexual imposition. The jail didn’t have information on an attorney for Riems.

The director of the nursing home said in a statement that Riems had been fired.

“We cannot share any more detail at this time out of respect for the privacy of our residents, and in light of the ongoing police investigation,” Jessica Short said in the statement.

Investigators are looking into Riems’ past, which includes employment at other facilities. McClung wouldn’t identify the other places where he worked.

White father who sexually abused daughter LIVE on internet gets 4 years

They really threw the book at him eh?

TORONTO —  A Canadian man who sexually abused his 4-year-old daughter live on the Internet so another man could watch was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison.

An undercover detective who played a key role in catching the 35-year-old man criticized the judge’s sentence as too lenient.

The father, whose name was not released to protect the identity of his daughter, was arrested in October 2006, just hours after he used a Webcam to expose his daughter to another man during a chat room conversation.

The father from St. Thomas, Ontario, pleaded guilty in October to seven criminal charges.

In sentencing him, Justice John McGarry called it a “gross case; a sickening case of breach of trust.”

“Words cannot describe what is found in those pictures. They are of a three- and four-year-old girl being used by her father for his own sexual gratification,” McGarry said.

Paul Krawczyk, the undercover detective who watched the live Internet assault, called the judge’s sentence “sad.”

“It’s just four years. The child has to deal with this for the rest of her life, and not just the child, the mother of the child, the family members of the child,” he told The Associated Press.

/**/

“The mom said it perfectly yesterday. She said it would be easier if the father was dead. Nobody ever thinks of the children in this,” Krawczyk said.

The four-year sentence handed down Thursday takes into account time already served, which means the man will serve another 20 months and will then be on probation for three years.

In a victim impact statement read in court Wednesday by the prosecutor, the man’s wife called him a “cruel person” and said she would rather have learned her husband was dead than discover the truth about his “despicable” behavior.”

Defense lawyer Bob Upsdell told court Wednesday his client has been physically assaulted twice while behind bars, and has lost 130 pounds since his arrest.

Officials said the man is one of 82 men arrested worldwide as a result of a global police operation involving Internet child pornography, which began with the arrest of another Canadian man.

Ex-N.Y. Prosecutor Charged With Teen Sex

White pedophiles just want to party….

crrray.jpg

NEW CITY, N.Y. (AP) — An ex-prosecutor and former PTA president who is also the wife of a suburban police chief has been charged with having sex, smoking marijuana and drinking with high-school-age children.

Beth Modica, 44, a former assistant district attorney in Rockland County and Queens, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to counts including statutory rape, sex abuse and endangering children.

Her hands were cuffed in front of her in court, where the indictment was unsealed. She later posted $75,000 bail.

Her husband is police chief of Spring Valley. He is “not implicated whatsoever,” Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe said.

The 35-count indictment says that, beginning in July, Modica had intercourse with a 16-year-old, as well as oral sex with that boy and a 15-year-old. The judge issued orders of protection for the boys.

Modica, a former PTA president at Sloatsburg Elementary School, also is accused of drinking with many other children at her home and smoking marijuana with them in her car.

Modica would face a prison term of 1 1/3 to four years if convicted.

Ramapo Police Chief Peter Brower said the investigation began Dec. 31, when his department received a complaint in the mail. He said the students involved go to Suffern High School, which is also attended by at least one of Modica’s four children, a 16-year-old son.

“You have to understand these are allegations,” defense attorney Gerard Damiani said after the court session. “They’re allegations from teenagers.”

Damiani said Modica’s character had never been questioned before. She is in good standing with the state bar association and has no prior criminal record, he said.

Until earlier this month, Modica was deputy attorney for the Town of Ramapo and the Village of Sloatsburg. She was not reappointed this year.

Damiani said that Modica and her husband, Paul, have separated, and that she is living with her mother in Nanuet.

Beth Modica was a Rockland County prosecutor in the early 1990s, but Zugibe said he sees no conflict in prosecuting her.

Zugibe said Modica’s husband “was not involved, was unaware and was not present when the alleged acts occurred. … I have only the greatest respect for Chief Modica.” He would not comment on whether the couple’s children were aware of the alleged crimes.

Paul Modica’s lawyer, John Edwards, said, “Paul’s sole interest at this point is protecting his children. … He’s trying to make sure the kids are impacted as little as possible.”

Rockland County is north of New York City.

White man kills himself and his children, cleared of murder

Take anti-depressants  before killing somebody and you’ll be ok.  Make sure you’re white though.

_44369195_hoganpa.jpg

A British man who leapt 50ft (15m) from a hotel balcony with his two children in Crete has been cleared of murder.

John Hogan, 33, from Bradley Stoke, near Bristol, was “incapable” of murdering his son because of his mental state, a Greek court has ruled.

He will now be placed in a psychiatric unit for a minimum of three years.

Mr Hogan’s son Liam, six, died from head injuries. His daughter Mia, then aged two, broke her arm but survived the fall, in August 2006.

Couple rowed

President Paraskeri Kiraleou, the senior judge at the trial, said: “His responsibility was diminished.

“He was incapable of murdering his son and he needs to be in a psychiatric unit for therapy.”

Mr Hogan, his then wife Natasha, 35, and their children, had gone on holiday to the 227-bed four-star Petra Mare hotel, which overlooks the beach of Ierapetra, Crete.

The holiday was a “make or break” effort to resolve differences in the couple’s marriage.

However, the court in Crete, which comprised three judges and four jurors, was told the summer break had been plagued by rows.

On the night of Liam’s death, Mrs Hogan described her husband as “agitated” and had asked him to “calm down” but he had become increasingly angry.

They argued as she packed their suitcases with her back turned to the balcony. When she turned around he had disappeared over the edge with their children.

The court heard Mr Hogan’s family had suffered several tragedies, including the suicides of his two brothers.

Mr Hogan was now taking anti-depressants and had tried to kill himself on four occasions while in prison.

Tiling firm boss Mr Hogan, who was crying as the verdict was delivered, said nothing as he was led from court by two police officers.

Mrs Hogan sobbed into her hands on hearing the verdict.

In a statement read by Det Con Russ Jones, from Avon and Somerset Police, following the verdict, Mrs Hogan said: “This result albeit somewhat unexpected, has left me feeling that Liam lost his young life for nothing.

“I accept that an act in a moment of complete madness was uncharacteristic of John. But to have done this to our children is unforgivable.

‘Rebuild our lives’

“I know that we all miss Liam, but it is Mia and I who are left to rebuild our lives without a loving caring son and brother.”

The statement also said that the family has found it difficult to hear the circumstances of Liam’s death again.

It added: “John is no longer my husband and plans are afoot to rebuild our lives away from the media spotlight.

“You have all heard our lives laid bare during the court process. I ask now that you allow us time to reflect, to rebuild our lives with dignity showing due reverence to my son Liam.”

Dimitris Xiritakis, Mr Hogan’s lawyer, said: “According to the verdict of the courts, John Hogan is innocent.

“The court in one voice decided that on 15th August 2006 when his son died and his daughter was wounded, John Hogan could not realise reality in the sense of the law. He is innocent.

“But because he has [suicidal tendencies], he must stay [for] a short period, that is not defined yet, in full therapy.”

He added that it could be possible for Hogan to spend some of this time in England.

‘Mental anguish’

A spokesman for the mental health charity Sane said: “We welcome the verdict in the trial of John Hogan, and the judge’s acknowledgement of his disturbed mental state and his need for psychiatric treatment.

“This case highlights how extraordinary mental pain can tragically distort a person’s perception and judgment.

“While in no way underestimating the terrible consequences of John Hogan’s actions we should not automatically condemn him without considering the depth of mental anguish he was suffering.

“Severe depression is not simply a case of feeling ‘blue’ and those at its mercy cannot ‘pull themselves together’. It is a serious illness and a debilitating psychiatric disorder that changes personalities and wrecks lives.”

Amy Winehouse on crack

The perks of white celebrity culture…

The tormented singing sensation took hit after hit of the deadly drug after a 19-minute binge in which she snorted powdered ECSTASY and COCAINE.

And she admitted she had just popped six VALIUM pills to “bring myself down”.

Amy’s spiral of self-destruction was revealed in a harrowing video filmed at her East London home and seen by The Sun.

It will horrify relatives and friends who fear she could soon end up dead.

The footage also laid bare the Back To Black singer’s squalid lifestyle as she stumbled around in a grubby vest surrounded by junkies and parasitic hangers-on.

At one point, lank-haired Amy is warned to watch out for smashed glass on the floor as she scours a bedroom for her kitten barefoot.

The dazed and confused star accuses a guest of taking the pet from a quiet room into the drug-fuelled hubbub of her house party.

She mumbles wearily: “If I was that cat I’d leave on my own accord — I’d call a cab. It ain’t right. This ain’t Toys R Us. They took my cat.”

A friend of the waif-like chart-topper said last night:

Wedding pic ... Amy and Blake

Amy is locked in a nosedive towards oblivion — she is killing herself. The video shows a woman completely out of control.

Her family and her few real friends have begged her to pull herself from the brink many times. But here is proof she has pressed the self-destruct button.

Her fans would scarcely recognise the drug-addled wreck in the video as the talented performer they love.

We can only pray she will get a wake-up call when she watches the video herself and sees the terrible state she is in.Close_quote

The pal added: “Amy is looking ill and dirty, and is so thin you wonder how much more she can take. She MUST get help.”

Amy threw the party at her trendy home in the early hours of Friday — just before she went to court to support husband BLAKE FIELDER-CIVIL at a remand hearing.

Within seconds of greeting pals at the door, she greedily snorted powdered ecstasy offered on the corner of a credit card.

Minutes later, with her head swimming, she is seen on the video being offered cocaine.

A friend cautions her not to take too much because the drug is from a highly-concentrated stash.

But Amy disregards the warning and hungrily snorts a clump.

The star, her new bottle-blonde hair looking dull and lifeless, then drifts through her lounge in search of the next fix.

She appears oblivious to booze and drugged-up hangers-on milling around and playing on her pool table.

The surreal scene is played out against a soundtrack of 1950s songs from the stereo, including It’s All In The Game by crooner Tommy Edwards, who drank himself to death at 47.

Just before 5am, Amy heads up a spiral staircase to her dimly-lit bedroom, where she squats on her leopardskin print duvet and chats to scruffy pals as she primes a glass pipe with rocks of crack.

var RStag = “”; try{ RStag = segQS; } catch(e){ RStag = “”; } document.write(”); <a href=’http://ad.uk.doubleclick.net/adj/bizarre.thesun.co.uk/mainhomepage/index;pos=mpu;sz=300×250;tile=2;ord=1201032158571?’ class=”border-none” alt=”Ad Frame”></a>

She fires it up with a lighter and inhales deeply several times, holding the fumes in her lungs as long as possible to maximise the effect.

The voice that has sold millions of records is transformed into a weak, breathless croak as she tries to talk.

On a wall in the background is a wedding picture of Amy and Fielder-Civil, who is in jail awaiting trial on assault and perverting justice charges.

Pals ask her to go out with them, but she mutters: “I’d be useless to you because I’ve had about six Valium.”

Ironically, she insists she cannot party too heavily as she has to be up at 8am to get to the court on time.

Amy’s real friends believe she is now at constant risk of an overdose like the one which led to her notorious collapse last August.

One said: “Someone has to turn her around, otherwise a great talent will disappear forever very soon.”

White woman Pleads Guilty in Australian Cult Sex Murder

Just 19 years? A man who believed he had supernatural sexual powers killed his partner’s best friend after encouraging her to sleep with him to exorcise her demons.David Maxwell Shepherd, 38, was jailed for 19 years after admitting to murdering Malissa Mayfield at her Bossley Park home, in southwest Sydney in June 2006.

Mayfield, 29, died in hospital four days after being strangled in her home as her two young daughters lay sleeping just yards away.

The bizarre details of the murder were made public for the first time Monday, with the NSW Supreme Court lifting a suppression order on the case following a guilty plea by Shepherd’s de facto wife, Angela Wells.

Wells was due to stand trial for murder Monday, but prosecutors accepted a guilty plea to the lesser charge of being an accessory after the fact.

Wearing a purple shirt, with her short brown hair in a neat ponytail, the 29-year-old showed no emotion as she stood and quietly responded “guilty, your honor” to knowingly assisting Shepherd after Mayfield’s murder.

Wells was a longtime friend of Mayfield, and godmother to her youngest daughter.

/**/

Shepherd met Mayfield through Wells, and the three of them bonded over a shared interest in the supernatural.

”(Shepherd) told the deceased that he had psychic powers and that he could remove her bad demons by sleeping with her,” Justice Peter Hidden said when sentencing Shepherd in December.

“Ms. Wells had also told her that the offender could give her pleasure, and that if she had sex with him all the evil spirits would go.”

Shepherd and Mayfield slept together a few times, but Justice Hidden said she soon became afraid of the “hysteria” of his beliefs and tried to sever contact.

”(Shepherd) would phone the deceased and say to her such things as ‘Don’t go to work, you’re going to get killed’ and ‘Something bad’s going to happen’,” the judge said.

Shepherd told police he heard voices, including one named Johnny, which Wells also heard.

He and Mayfield became close, and Shepherd said he confided in her that his estranged wife, who was not named, had previously accused him of sexually interfering with their teenage daughter.

Shepherd said Mayfield then began blackmailing him with the information, and Wells urged him to “sort her out.’.

”(Wells) … said that Johnny had told her that both the deceased and her daughter had to be raped and murdered … or they would send more demons to him,” Justice Hidden said.

Justice Hidden said the circumstances involved “some bizarre interest in the supernatural” but he could make `”no firm finding about why (Shepherd) went to the dead woman’s house that morning, or about what it was which triggered the attack.’.

Wells is accused only of assisting Shepherd after the attack, with the prosecution today withdrawing the murder charge against her.

Shepherd was jailed for at least 15 years, with his maximum 20-year term due to expire in 2025.

Barrister John Doris, acting for Wells, said he would push for a non-custodial sentence, and requested she undergo a psychiatric assessment.

Justice Michael Grove continued her bail to face a sentencing hearing in the same court on Feb. 22.

White woman lived for months with dead partner

 Creepy

VIENNA (Reuters) – A 66-year-old Austrian woman lived for almost a year with the corpse of her 85-year-old partner, APA news agency said Wednesday.

Police found the remains of the man in the couple’s small vacation cottage in the eastern village of St Andrae am Zicksee Tuesday, swaddled in blankets with the dwelling reeking of decomposition odors.

The woman had told a local doctor and neighbors who tried to contact the man since last March that he was abroad. APA said police were looking into whether the woman concealed his death in order to collect his pension payments.

The dead man was separated from his wife, who had also tried to contact him, APA said.

Satanists held in Church arsons

Satanists in Alabama…..now I’ve heard it call. No point in calling them white satanists since thats the only racial group attracted to Satanism.

logo.jpg

PHENIX CITY, Ala. – Two men who authorities said dabbled in satanism have been arrested in connection with a recent rash of arson and vandalism at rural churches.

Satanic graffiti was scrawled at or near some of the east Alabama churches, and the 21-year-old suspects “called themselves professed spiritual satanists,” Russell County Sheriff Tommy Boswell said Monday.

Geoffrey Parquette and James Clark were arrested Sunday and pleaded not guilty Monday. Neither had an attorney.

Boswell said the men, both of the Smiths community in Lee County, were not part of any organized group.

Parquette is charged with second-degree arson, third-degree burglary and criminal mischief in Russell and Lee counties. Clark is charged with second-degree arson and burglary in Lee County.

Both remained in custody. Bond was set at $200,000 for Parquette. No bond was set immediately for Clark.

Fires were set at three churches over four days beginning Jan. 1, and a task force of federal, state and local authorities was formed last week to investigate.

One of the churches, in the suspects’ hometown, was destroyed; the others sustained moderate to heavy damage. Satanic graffiti was found in or near three churches, including one that was not burned.

Jim Cavanaugh, regional director of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said crosses, robes and documents were taken from the churches. He said investigators found some of these items at the homes of the suspects.

The arrests came two years after another string of deliberately set fires at rural Alabama churches led to a major federal-state investigation. Three Birmingham college students were arrested, pleaded guilty and were sentenced to prison.

Eligible bachelor accused of rapes

 Rename the show “The Rapist.”

capt31099bbeea82484f858adba72e6dd464eligible_bachelor_rape_bx101.jpg

BOSTON – Gary Zerola’s dark, brooding looks and his work on behalf of foster children helped earn him a spot on People magazine’s list of America’s “Most Eligible Bachelors” and a tryout for the TV reality show “The Bachelor.”

But authorities now say Zerola had another, darker sideline — as a rapist who preys on young women.

He awaits back-to-back trials beginning Tuesday in Boston on charges he attacked two 19-year-olds in 2004 and 2006. He also faces charges in Florida, where authorities say he force-fed drugs to an 18-year-old woman, then raped her in a Miami Beach hotel in October while free on bail in the Massachusetts assaults.

Prosecutors say Zerola met all three women in bars, charmed them, then attacked them when they refused to have sex. In the 2006 case, he allegedly took the woman shopping at Neiman Marcus, where he bought her a $700 dress and $250 shoes before trying to rape her in his Boston apartment.

“He spent some time grooming these girls,” prosecutor Suzanne Kontz said during a hearing in November.

Zerola is free on $100,000 bail. He and his attorney, Janice Bassil, did not return calls seeking comment.

The Gary Zerola described by prosecutors is far different from the man friends say dedicated himself to helping children.

The youngest of seven children, Zerola was placed in foster care at age 3 after his parents split up and his mother became ill. Over the next decade, he was shuffled among a dozen foster families until he was placed permanently with a suburban Boston lawyer and his wife.

Zerola, 36, attended Suffolk University, where he earned degrees in law and public administration. He delivered his law school commencement address.

“He was bright and articulate,” said John E. Fenton Jr., one of Zerola’s law professors. “I don’t remember what he spoke about, but I can tell you he gave an excellent speech.”

He worked as a state prosecutor on child abuse and domestic violence cases and became well-known in philanthropic circles as an advocate for foster children. He started a volunteer group that raised money to buy clothing and gifts for foster kids.

He was regularly mentioned in newspaper gossip columns and fetched an $800 bid in a charity dating auction. In 2001, at age 29, Zerola was named one of People’s 50 most eligible bachelors.

In his People profile, Zerola spoke of his troubled childhood. “Statistically speaking, I should be in debt or in jail because of the upbringing I had,” he said.

In 2000, Zerola opened his own law practice as a criminal defense attorney. His clients included drug dealers and rape defendants. In court, he was known for his well-tailored suits, flashy style and the frequent compliments he paid female court employees.

“It’s a rare instance that you see a kid who has been through as many foster family situations as Gary who was able to rise above all of that, not to get into trouble as a kid, not to turn to substance abuse, but to go to college and then to go on and become a lawyer,” said Michael Natola, a Boston defense attorney who is a close friend.

“He never, ever forgot his experiences as a child and as a young man, and he always wanted to make it easier for kids who were in similar situations as he was.”

In the 2004 case, Zerola stands accused of repeatedly raping a woman in his apartment.

In 2006, a woman told police that after the two went out on their first date, she went back to his apartment to use the bathroom. She said that after she turned down Zerola’s sexual advances, he ripped off her dress and underwear, slammed her head against the wall and refused to let her leave.

The woman dialed 911 on her cell phone and police tracked the call to Zerola’s apartment using a GPS system.

While awaiting trial in those two attacks, Zerola violated the conditions of his bail and flew to Florida this past fall to see the New England Patriots play the Miami Dolphins.

A woman told police she had several drinks with Zerola at a club, then went to his hotel room, where Zerola stuffed pills down her throat. The woman, who told police she was a virgin, said she awoke naked and bleeding in bed beside Zerola.

Zerola told police, “I never had sex with her.” He would not submit to a DNA test, prosecutors said.

Zerola’s law license has been suspended. On his Web site, where he is described as a “highly regarded speaker” and legal commentator who has appeared on TV’s “Power of Attorney” and “Judge Hatchett,” there is now a message noting that he is not accepting new clients or practicing law.

Briton freed after 21 years on U.S. death row

 Blind justice?

CHICAGO (Reuters) – A British man who came close to being executed by the state of Ohio for killing a 2-year-old girl was set free under a plea deal on Monday, with plans to return to his home in Scotland, authorities said.

Kenneth Richey, 43, had his sentence reduced to time served since being sent to death row for setting a 1986 fire that killed Cynthia Collins, a Putnam County court official said.

Richey had been asked by the toddler’s mother to look after the girl while she went out after a night of heavy drinking and marijuana smoking in their Columbus Grove, Ohio, apartment house.

Richey denied setting the fire and the controversial case became a cause celebre across Europe, which does not have capital punishment.

He was readied for execution in 1994 but was granted a last-minute stay.

An appeals court overturned his conviction in August, saying Richey received inadequate legal representation amid several doubtful pieces of evidence.

Richey agreed to plead no contest to attempted involuntary manslaughter, child endangering and breaking and entering, giving him his freedom but with the stipulation that he leave the United States. In pleading no contest, the defendant concedes the charges alleged without admitting guilt.

Originally, prosecutors said Richey had set the fire to get back at a former girlfriend who was asleep with another man in the apartment below.

Richey was supposed to have been freed three weeks ago in time to spend Christmas with his mother in Edinburgh, but his hearing was delayed when he suffered heart problems.

Snacking on a wing and a prayer

Wonder if they get third degree burns as it comes out.

CHICAGO (Reuters) – A Chicago tavern said on Thursday it will begin selling chicken wings coated in one of the world’s hottest peppers — a dish so hot that patrons first have to sign a waiver agreeing not to sue for injuries.

Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap said the wings made with Red Savina pepper will be served with an alarm bell for patrons to summon waiters with sour cream, milk sugar and white bread if things get out of hand.

Levy Restaurants, which owns the tavern, said its chef d’Cuisine Robin Rosenberg had been working on the concept for years but was never sure he’d be able to serve it.

“This isn’t the right sauce for everyone, but for someone out there, this is going to be absolute heaven. Of course, for a handful of people, it’s going to be hell,” he said.

Iraqi soldier kills three white terrorists for beating pregnant woman

Is a $100 per barrel worth it?

dead_us_soldiers.jpg

In a dispatch posted at 11:35am Baghdad time Wednesday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that US troops had arrested Qaysar Sa‘di, a soldier in the puppet “Iraqi National Guards” after he shot and killed three US troops, including a captain.

Yaqen reported a source in the puppet security forces in al-Qayyarah as saying that a translator who was accompanying the Americans was also wounded in the incident.

The source said that the incident took place in a neighborhood of al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad, two days earlier in the course of joint raids that the US troops and their puppet army allies were carrying out. An American soldier at one point began to beat and kick a pregnant Iraqi woman, prompting the Iraqi puppet “National Guard” soldier to try to intervene. The confrontation between him and the American escalated to gunfire when Sa‘di, the “National Guard” soldier opened fire on the American and his companions.
The source said that Sa‘di was a resident of al-Qayyarah and had been in the puppet army for more than a year at the time of the incident.

Ariz. beauty queen accused of kidnapping

FORMER beauty queen is right.

TUCSON, Ariz. – A law school student and former beauty queen who has posed for a racy calendar while brandishing a weapon has been accused of kidnapping, biting and threatening a former boyfriend with a handgun.

Kumari Fulbright, 25, who is midway through her second year in law school, faces a long prison term if convicted of kidnapping, armed robbery, aggravated robbery and two counts of aggravated assault.

Fulbright, who competed for the Miss Arizona title in 2005 and 2006, recently completed a semester-long unpaid stint clerking for a federal judge, U.S. District Judge Raner Collins, his office said. She also poses wearing a shiny black bikini in a 2008 calendar that features women holding guns.

In the Dec. 18 indictment, Fulbright is accused of holding and torturing her 24-year-old ex-boyfriend in early December with the help of three other men, including another man she had previously dated.

Authorities think the dispute began because the ex-boyfriend was believed to have stolen jewlery given to Fulbright by the former beau suspected of helping in the attack.

Fulbright invited the man to her apartment, then excused herself to shower, said police spokesman Sgt. Fabian Pacheco. Then two men showed up and bound him with plastic ties and duct tape, accused him of taking the jewelry, and threatened to shoot him with pistols, Pacheco said.

When Fulbright finished her shower, she allegedly bit the man on his forearm, right hand and ear, held a butcher knife to his head, and told him she was going to kill him.

Authorities said the man was taken to another home, where the assault continued, then took him back to Fulbright’s house, where she guarded him with a gun.

The man finally managed to free a hand and grabbed the gun, which discharged but hit no one, authorities said. As their struggle spilled outside, the man screamed for help, then ran to a home down the block, while Fulbright returned to her apartment, Pacheo said.

“He has some bite marks on him, evident and consistent with his account, and his hands were red and swollen, consistent with someone who had been tied up,” Pacheco said.

A police complaint said the suspects stole the victim’s wallet, money clip with $500 to $600, and his cell phone and briefcase.

Fulbright’s phone is out of service and her apartment was unoccupied Wednesday, without any furniture. Efforts also were made to contact her through MySpace.com.

Tucson police also are seeking to serve her former boyfriend, Robert Ergonis, 44, and his brother, Michael Ergonis, 46, with arrest warrants charging them with kidnapping, armed robbery and aggravated assault, but believe they may have fled the country. Telephone numbers for the brothers were not listed.

Another man who was indicted with Fulbright remains jailed under $50,000 bond, but Fulbright was freed after arranging to have a similar bond posted.

Calls to Fulbright’s attorney, Thomas Hartzell, and to the Miss Pima County pageant, which Fulbright won in 2005, were not returned. She also was selected Miss Desert Sun in 2006.

A spokeswoman for the University of Arizona, where Fulbright attends, said it was premature to talk about what could occur in terms of discipline. She and other faculty members declined further comment, citing student privacy.

White Priest charged with lying about mob ties

 Salvation will have to wait.

HARRISBURG, Pa. – A Roman Catholic priest was arrested on perjury charges Wednesday, accused of lying about his relationship with a mobster in testimony to a grand jury investigating a casino owner’s possible ties to organized crime.

The Rev. Joseph Sica, 52, was arrested outside his home in Scranton and taken to a court hearing in Harrisburg, where he was released on $20,000 unsecured bail. He is an adviser to Mount Airy Casino Resort owner Louis DeNaples, who is the subject of the grand jury investigation.

Sica declined to speak to reporters as he left the courthouse Wednesday.

Sica’s arrest is the first to result from the Dauphin County grand jury probe, which is focused on whether DeNaples misled the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board when he said he had no connections to organized crime.

Sica, the chaplain at a Scranton hospital, was accused of lying to the grand jury last August about his relationship with the late Russell Bufalino, an organized crime boss who served long prison terms in the 1970s and ’80s, according to grand jury findings cited in court papers.

The papers said Sica falsely told the grand jury that he had met Bufalino only by chance and had no relationship with him.

Prosecutors said the finding was based partly on a photograph that showed the priest arm-in-arm with Bufalino and another photo of him with William D’Elia of Hughestown, who reputedly heads the Bufalino crime family now.

Also, in a 1982 letter to Ginny Thornburgh, the wife of then-Gov. Dick Thornburgh, Sica referred to Bufalino as “his friend” and asked her to help free Bufalino, whom he called an innocent man, prosecutors said.

Dauphin County Judge Todd A. Hoover scheduled a preliminary hearing for Jan. 25. It was unclear whether Sica had a lawyer.

Bill Genello, a spokesman for the Diocese of Scranton, called the arrest a “deeply distressing development” and said the diocese had granted Sica’s request for a leave of absence.

Sica, who lives at a church rectory, will not publicly celebrate Mass while he attends to his legal problems, Genello said in a statement.

DeNaples’ spokesman, Kevin Feeley, said the man’s family took in Sica as a child and essentially raised him. The two men have been friends for more than 40 years, he said.

That “does not change the fact that Louis DeNaples has no ties to organized crime,” Feeley said.

Fran Chardo, a Dauphin County prosecutor, told the judge that Sica owns a handgun and had $1,000 in cash on him when he was arrested.

Sica is due back in court Jan. 25.
