White Couple Jailed After Family Found Living In Feces And Trash Six Inches Deep

Sacramento, California – William Kindrick, 30, and Anita Rivera, 32, were arrested Monday on accusations they were raising kids in deplorable conditions and physically abusing them as well.

According to police, officers were dispatched to the couple’s home after a neighbor called to report a suspected case of child abuse. Investigators arrived on scene to discover Rivera’s four children (ages 1 thru 12) living in deplorable conditions.

Investigators say the home reeked of dog feces and the floor was lined with debris, clutter and feces that was 6-inches deep. Spoiled food, cockroaches, clutter and debris was strewn throughout the house and out into the couple’s yard.

The alleged neglect came to light when a neighbor reportedly saw Kindrick attacking a 12-year-old boy in the couple’s front yard. Detectives later discovered that several of the children had been attacked by Kindrick, resulting in cuts, scrapes, bruises and a split lip… All four children have now been placed with the children’s biological father.

Kindrick and Rivera were booked into jail on suspicion of abuse and neglect. Bail was set at $50,000 each.

Lou Dobbs quits CNN

A more “activist role”? Like what Lou, joining the Minutemen vigilantes to hunt Mexicans at the border?

New York — CNN’s Lou Dobbs stepped down from his controversial role as an advocacy anchor at the network at the end of his show Wednesday night after announcing plans to seek a more activist role.

“Over the past six months, it has become increasingly clear that strong winds of change have begun buffeting this country and affecting all of us, and some leaders in media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond the role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem-solving as well as to contribute positively to a better understanding of the great issues of our day and to continue to do so in the most honest and direct language possible,” Dobbs said during his 7 p.m. broadcast.

Dobbs, 64, said he had discussed the issue with CNN President Jonathan Klein, who had agreed to a release from his contract “that will enable me to pursue new opportunities.”

In a written statement, Klein called Dobbs “a valued founding member of the CNN family.”

“For decades, Lou fearlessly and tirelessly pursued some of the most important and complex stories of our time, often well ahead of the pack,” Klein said. “All of us will miss his appetite for big ideas, the megawatt smile and larger-than-life presence he brought to our newsroom, and we’re grateful to have known and worked with him over the years.

“With characteristic forthrightness, Lou has now decided to carry the banner of advocacy journalism elsewhere. We respect his decision and wish him, Debi [Dobbs' wife], and his family the very best.”

Dobbs, who is the last of the 29-year-old network’s original anchors, said he was considering “a number of options and directions.”

He cited the growth of the middle class, the creation of jobs, health care, immigration policy, the environment, climate change and the U.S. military involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan as “the major issues of our time.”

But, he said, “Each of those issues is, in my opinion, informed by our capacity to demonstrate strong resilience of our now weakened capitalist economy and demonstrate the political will to overcome the lack of true representation in Washington, D.C. I believe these to be profoundly, critically important issues and I will continue to strive to deal honestly and straightforwardly with those issues in the future.” Read Dobbs’ full statement about his departure from CNN

Those issues, he added, are defined in the public arena “by partisanship and ideology rather than by rigorous, empirical forethought, analysis and discussion,” and he vowed to work to change that.

In an e-mail to CNN staff members, Klein described the parting as “extremely amicable,” and said Dobbs’ replacement would be announced soon.

Dobbs was with Cable News Network from its initial broadcasts in 1980, acting as chief economics correspondent and host of the business program “Moneyline.”

His coverage of the 1987 stock market crash won him the George Foster Peabody Award for excellence in broadcasting. That was one of many awards he received while at CNN, including an Emmy for Lifetime Achievement that he received from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2005.

Dobbs left the network in 1999 to found SPACE.com, a Web site devoted to space-related subjects. He returned to the network in 2001 as anchor and managing editor of CNN’s Moneyline News Hour, which became Lou Dobbs Tonight. He also acted as lead business news anchor for CNN/U.S. and CNNfn, the forerunner of CNNMoney.

During his second stint at CNN, Dobbs positioned himself as “tough, relentless, independent,” lashing out at what he described as the deficiencies and “partisan nonsense” of both major political parties, and injecting advocacy journalism into his coverage of topics ranging from free trade to immigration.

His no-holds-barred, sometimes acerbic style brought him a loyal following, but also attracted controversy both to him and to the network, especially over the subject of illegal immigrants.

Dobbs will continue as anchor of The Lou Dobbs Show, a daily radio show that began in March 2008 and is distributed to more than 160 stations nationwide by United Stations Radio Networks Inc.

White terrorist assaults Greek Orthodox Priest whom he mistook for an Arab

Claiming that a GREEK ORTHODOX PRIEST with a crucifix around his neck was yelling “Allah hu Akbar”? Realizing how idiotic that sounded he got his lawyer to say that the priest tried to grab his genitals and rob him.  Why can’t whites be truthful?

Tampa, Florida – Marine or Priest? Who do you believe? The accounts of what went on in a parking garage on Monday vary so drastically, it’s hard to tell which man wears the halo.

Police say it all started when Alexios Marakis, a priest from Greece, got lost in Tampa. He followed some cars into an apartment parking garage and in very broken English asked Jasen Bruce for help.

Bruce, a Marine Reservist, told police the priest tried to rob him, so Bruce hit him with a tire iron and chased Marakis three blocks.

Bruce also told police he thought the robed and bearded Marakis was an Arab terrorist.

Police spokesperson Laura McElroy says Bruce told officers that the priest shouted “Allahu Akbar!” The phrase, Bruce told officers, that Arab terrorists use before they blow you up.

McElroy says Bruce also told officers that Marakis made a sexual advance towards him in the parking garage.

And that sexual advance is what Bruce’s attorney Jeffrey Brown says motivated the attack. Brown held a news conference Tuesday afternoon to counter what he called the “one-sided, tainted” press release from TPD.

According to Brown, the priest “made a sexual reference and grabbed the genitals of Lance Corporal Bruce. Lance Corporal Bruce defended himself,” explained Brown.

Brown says he’s confident that eventually surveillance tapes and the 911 call will back up his client’s account.

However, the president of the group Tampa Bay Human Rights is urging the police and FBI to investigate the attack on the priest as a hate crime.

Ahmed Bedier told 10 Connects, “There was some sort of motivation based on the person’s ethnicity, where he perceived him to be Arab or Muslim and that’s simply unacceptable.”

Marakis is from Crete and is a visiting priest to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Tarpon Springs. 10 Connects called and also visited the church on Tuesday, but no one was available to comment on the attack.

 

Robert E. Lee Defecates Inside A CVS Pharmacy

Iowa City, IA  – Robert E. Lee, a 57-year-old Iowa City man was jailed Friday after he allegedly walked into a CVS Pharmacy, defecated on the floor and then excited the building.

According to Iowa City police, Lee walked into a CVS Pharmacy about 4:17 p.m and gave a store full of people a show they didn’t want to see.

Lee reportedly walked to the front of the store, lifted his shirt, dropped his pants, and then defecated on the floor. Both store employees and customers reportedly witnessed the event.

Police later caught up with Lee, who smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet. Officers conducted a breathalyzer test, which showed Lee’s blood alcohol level to be three times the legal limit, according to investigators.

A manager at CVS states that it will cost less then $200 to clean up the feces.

Lee was booked into jail on charges of fifth-degree criminal mischief and public intoxication. Bond amount was not available.

White Man to 911 Dispatcher: “Come Quick, Someone Stole My Weed!”

Salem, Ore  – Calvin Hoover, a 21-year-old Oregon man was arrested Tuesday after he called 911 to report that someone had stolen his marijuana.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a bar after Hoover called to report someone had broken into his vehicle while he was inside the Freeloader Tavern.

Hoover told the dispatchers that a thief broke into his truck and stole $400 in cash, a jacket and about 3/4 ounce of marijuana.

Deputies arrived at the bar about 1 a.m. but were unable to locate Hoover. After about a half hour, Hoover called back, angry that deputies were taking so long to arrive.

Investigators say the dispatcher was having trouble hearing Hoover during the call because he had stopped several times to vomit.

Deputies eventually located Hoover about 100 feet from his truck. He told deputies that he was looking for the person who had stolen his “weed”.

Deputies took the man’s theft report and then promptly arrested him, discovering he was drunk and in possession of marijuana.

Hoover was booked into the Marion County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance and DUI.

Was the Ford Hood massacre a White Psyop?

This was sent to us by a South American reader(Hat tip : Blanko). Was this the result of a lone wolf or something far more sinister? While this act should be condemned , we must also remember that those who orchestrated 9/11, lied about Iraq(resulting in the deaths of over 1.3 million of its citizens) cannot be trusted to speak the truth. The following article raises some very interesting points.

In what one Russian Military Analyst (jokingly?) speculated could possibly be a “very sick” way of publicizing a new American movie opening this week about the US Pentagons decades long experiments in mind-control technology (“The Men Who Stare At Goats”), has instead, according to these reports, resulted in a tragic massacre of at least 13 US Soldiers preparing for deployment to the Iraq war from the giant US military base of Fort Hood, Texas.

From Western propaganda news media reports on this massacre the American people are being told that a US Army Military Trained Psychiatrist, Major Nidal Malik Hasan [photo top left], became despondent over his recently receiving orders to deploy to Iraq and in “typical” lone gunman fashion “decided” to open fire on hundreds of his fellow soldiers killing and wounding them without discrimination.

Completing the “new legend” (in almost record time too) about this “lone gunman” being made responsible for this massacre, the Western propaganda machines are reporting such idiocies as Major Hasan having previously “complained to relatives of harassment by fellow-officers mocking him for being Middle Eastern” (Major Hasan’s parents came from small Palestinian town near Jerusalem) and his “attracting the attention of police six months ago for internet postings analyzing the motives of suicide bombers that was not formally investigated”.

Interesting to note in these reports, however, about Major Hasan is his past psychiatric training, paid for by the US Military, at Virginia Tech University where he graduated from that schools Center for Applied Behavior Systems with a degree in biochemistry, a school which FSB reports have long warned “is most likely” one of the US Department of Defenses top PSYOP training centers and where in April, 2007, it suffered the worst school massacre in US history when a Chinese student named Seung-Hui Cho, reported to be a subject to mind-control experiments, single-handedly gunned down 32 fellow students.

Even more interesting to note is that from the initial chaotic scene of the Fort Hood massacre not just the wounded Major Hanson taking into custody, but so were three other “alleged” gunmen, two of whom were released leaving one, at last report, still in US Army custody.

Now to understand the circumstances that placed Major Hasan at Fort Hood in the first place one has to understand that he was one of the US Militaries top PSYOP specialists and had received his medical degree, with honors, from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, in 2001, and did his internship at Walter Reed Army Hospital.

Major Hasan then became one of the top researchers at the US Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress in the field this US Military funded organization stated was:

“Center scientists are actively engaged in studies of military deployment, combat stress and the mental health of active duty, Guard and Reserve and veterans. This research helps military command (leaders, physicians and mental health providers) mitigate, respond to and foster recovery from the consequences of war and other military extreme environments that can occur in combat, peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance.

In addition, a primary focus of the Center is conducting studies of the impact of deployment on servicemen and women and their families. This research includes surveillance of psychiatric problems among battle injured soldiers, and measuring the psychological effect of treating severely injured and disfigured soldiers deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan on health care providers at institutions like Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center.”

From his position at the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress, Major Hasan became one of the originators of what is called the US Army’s “Warrior Combat Reset Program” set up to help American soldiers returning from war zones, or being redeployed to them, cope with what is called post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and which according to these reports led to his being at Fort Hood to “electronically prepare” an experimental group of US Soldiers for their return to the Iraq war zone.

Important to be understood about these reports is their detailing that nearly all of the US Military Forces are suffering what is termed a “catastrophic” level of stress disorders, murders, rapes and suicides so bad that American commanders are now warning that the readiness of their forces in is danger of “outright collapse”, and which is no wonder being that in just three short months this will become the longest war in US history.

Making the recycling of these battle hardened US Soldiers (to keep killing and dying for reasons they don’t even know about anymore) even more crucial are new American Military reports stating that over one-third of “Americans ages 17-24 are unqualified for military service because of physical and medical issues.”

So to yesterday’s massacre at Fort Hood, and Major Hasan’s “true role” in it, we need to turn to a little known, but extremely shocking case filed in the United States this past spring by a San Francisco lawyer named Gordon Erspamer and alleging:

“That [US] government scientists conducted human experiments at Edgewood is not in question. “The program involved testing of nerve agents, nerve agent antidotes, psychochemicals, and irritants,” according to a 1994 General Accounting Office (now the Government Accountability Office) report (PDF). At least 7,800 US servicemen served “as laboratory rats or guinea pigs” at Edgewood, alleges Erspamer’s complaint, filed in January in a federal district court in California. The Department of Veterans Affairs has reported that military scientists tested hundreds of chemical and biological substances on them, including VX, tabun, soman, sarin, cyanide, LSD, PCP, and World War I-era blister agents like phosgene and mustard. The full scope of the tests, however, may never be known. As a CIA official explained to the GAO, referring to the agency’s infamous MKULTRA mind-control experiments, “The names of those involved in the tests are not available because names were not recorded or the records were subsequently destroyed.” Besides, said the official, some of the tests involving LSD and other psychochemical drugs “were administered to an undetermined number of people without their knowledge.”

And among these “experiments” conducted on US Soldiers by their government, and according to FSB files was a “research specialty” of Major Hasan’s, one was one called Radio Hypnotic Intracerebral Control Electronic Dissolution of Memory (RHIC-EDOM) which was pioneered for the US Military in the 1960’s by New York University Professor J. Anthony Deutsch who…“indicated that the mind is a transmitter and if too much information is received, like too many vehicles on a crowded freeway, the brain ceases to transmit. The Professor indicated that an excess of acetyl choline in the brain can interfere with the memory process and control. He indicated excess amounts of acetyl choline can be artificially produced, through both the administration of drugs or through the use of radio waves. The process is called Electronic Dissolution of Memory (EDOM). The memory transmission can be stopped for as long as the radio signal continues.”

So strong was the American Military and Intelligence establishments’ belief that only by “erasing” the previous “battle stained” memories of their Soldiers could they be made to continue killing and dying that in 2007 they contracted with Russia’s Psychotechnology Research Institute in Moscow to purchase a system called Semantic Stimuli Response Measurements Technology (SSRM Tek) which is a software-based mind reader that tests a subject’s involuntary response to subliminal messages and which was used by the Soviet Military on Russian troops being redeployed to Afghanistan.

Unfortunately for the Americans, and who were undoubtedly warned by their Russian counterparts about this, the previous Soviet experiments using SSRM Tek software combined with RHIC-EDOM technology had a very dangerous side-effect of “triggering immediate battle memories” instead of “erasing” them and resulting in masses of Russian troops who were undergoing these experiments to “erupt” in “immediate violence” which left an estimated 37 of them dead when they began (for no apparent reason) to begin firing upon each other.

In the United States today 13 American Soldiers lie dead, and many more are wounded leaving countless numbers of wives, children, fathers and mothers to mourn over their seemingly senseless killing.

But, like the events of 9/11, the assassinations of their President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert, and the great civil rights leader Martin Luther King have shown us, these Americans have been well schooled in seeing only what they are told to see when tragedies like these, and Fort Hood now, occur.

Sometimes the childlike stories concocted by their propaganda masters to explain these horrific events are enough to placate the American people, but one has to wonder when at least some of them will wake up to the stark and brutal truth about what is happening to them.  One can only wonder if these Americans had demanded the truth before if these Soldiers were massacred would still be alive?

That is not in our knowing. But what is in our knowing is this, before they awaken from their long slumber these Americans can expect many more such deaths. We’re sure their propaganda organs are up to the task.

White woman ‘cried rape after living out fantasy of having sex with two strangers’

What kind of woman has a “rape fantasy”??!

A young woman cried rape after ‘fulfilling a fantasy’ of having sex with two strangers, a court heard yesterday.

Chloe Dolton, 22, was ‘bored’ with her life and willingly engaged in the threesome after an argument with her boyfriend, it was alleged.

A jury heard she had previously expressed her sexual fantasies in a diary, in which she wrote: ‘I am in crisis. I am so bored of my life and need a miracle.

‘I try to be nice and decent but I always end up one way or another trying to **** someone, a girl or a boy.’

The entry on a computer diary entitled The Life of Chloe Dolton continued: ‘I should be out having fun with every boy I meet, having sex with whoever I like.

‘I am such a hateful girl, such a selfish girl.’

The prosecution said she fulfilled her fantasy at the end of an evening spent drinking alcohol, and later accused the two men of rape because she was ashamed of what she had done.

Dolton told police that Robert Joborski and Gregor Bukowski grabbed her as she walked home alone from a late-night party where she had played drinking games.

She said they then raped her in a stone shelter built into the side of a cliff in the North Devon resort of Ilfracombe.

The two men were later arrested but never charged. They said the sex had been consensual and that Dolton had approached them late at night in a ‘chatty and friendly’ manner.

Mr Bukowski said after they met he had put his arm around her and they started kissing before Dolton asked if he had a condom.

He then had sex with her although the prosecutor said the ’sex came to a premature end’ when Dolton received a phone call from her live-in boyfriend.

Afterwards it is said she had sex with Mr Bukowski again and invited Mr Joborski to join them, and performed a sex act on him. She then returned home where she told her boyfriend she had been raped by the two Polish men.

Dolton’s boyfriend went to the scene of the alleged crime where he found two condoms which were handed over to

police. But officers who investigated the rape allegations in June 2007 noticed there were ’strikingly different’ versions from Dolton and the two Poles who were arrested and interviewed separately.

Prosecutor Jo Martin told Exeter Crown Court: ‘It is not unusual for rapists to claim that sex was consensual.’

But she said CCTV evidence and other inconsistencies in mobile phone records of calls and texts would show that Dolton had met the two Poles before the ‘alleged attack’ and that the men had not grabbed and assaulted her.

The jury heard that on her way home to her flat after the sex, Dolton also bumped into a friend but failed to tell him that she had been raped.

The two Poles gave evidence in court and said Dolton, from Braunton, North Devon, laughed with them and appeared happy after their encounter and that was the last they saw of her.

Dolton denies perverting the course of justice by making the false rape claims.

Miss Martin said of the defendant: ‘She deliberately lied to her boyfriend, her family and friends and to the police.

‘She clearly lied because probably of her shame and regret. She had in fact had consensual sex with two complete strangers.’

Opponents of a plan to ease travel between France and Switzerland face legal action for racism. The right-wing Swiss People’s Party says a new train line between Geneva and the border town of Annemasse will flood Switzerland with what it calls criminal ‘scum.’

“I agree with what this advert says: we must stop the train link because of the cost and because it will open us up to all the delinquents of Europe,” said People’s Party spokesman Yves Nidegger. “However, I admit the way it has been done is not very clever.”

Annemasse lies right on the Swiss border and thousands of people, French and others, cross every day to work in Geneva. The town’s mayor is outraged.

“I’m going to sue them,said Mayor Christian Dupessey. “My legal team is looking at how to proceed, because France and Switzerland are two countries with different legal systems. But I intend to sue the party for daring to issue this advert, and the paper which published it.”

The Swiss People’s Party earned widespread criticism last year after an election campaign showing a black sheep being kicked out of the country by white sheep – another advert denounced as racist.

The “Capitol Crossroads Gay Rodeo Association” Dance Naked In Front Of Children

WILTON, Calif. (CBS13) ― A Wilton man is upset over a naked barn dance near his home that, he says, happened within clear view of children. He captured the dirty dancing on home video.

The party was held over the weekend in a field that will soon be full of Christmas trees. But on Saturday, the field was home to a completely different type of celebration.

The home video shows a group called “The Capitol Crossroads Gay Rodeo Association” at play. Dance contestants’ names were called out as men’s bare buns and frontal regions are exposed.

Monty Stanley shot the video. He says he could see all the nudity from his home across the street.

“They were dancing under the stars,” said Stanley. “You can’t have man on man, woman on woman, men on women; you can’t subject these children to looking at that kind of stuff.”

Stanley says the night of the dance his kids had neighborhood friends over for the night.

“I was sickened by seeing men on public display there…in clear view of children,” said Stanley.

The gay men’s group had a legal permit for the event. Star Weubbe owns the Christmas tree lot land they rented, but says she didn’t know naked dancing would be involved.

“That was something that I certainly would not have permitted,” said Weubbe.

The barn dance has turned into the talk of this small Wilton town.

“I look at it if it happened anywhere else in town, somebody would be in jail for a felony for exposing themselves to children,” said Stanley.

Was this a case of public indecent exposure? The Sacramento County Sheriff’s department says it’s unclear. Could the naked eye have seen the naked men from the roadway? That would be the key to any prosecution.

Hotel owner tells Hispanic workers to change names

TAOS, N.M. – Larry Whitten marched into this northern New Mexico town in late July on a mission: resurrect a failing hotel.

The tough-talking former Marine immediately laid down some new rules. Among them, he forbade the Hispanic workers at the run-down, Southwestern adobe-style hotel from speaking Spanish in his presence (he thought they’d be talking about him), and ordered some to Anglicize their names.

No more Martin (Mahr-TEEN). It was plain-old Martin. No more Marcos. Now it would be Mark.

Whitten’s management style had worked for him as he’s turned around other distressed hotels he bought in recent years across the country.

The 63-year-old Texan, however, wasn’t prepared for what followed.

His rules and his firing of several Hispanic employees angered his employees and many in this liberal enclave of 5,000 residents at the base of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, where the most alternative of lifestyles can find a home and where Spanish language, culture and traditions have a long and revered history.

“I came into this landmine of Anglos versus Spanish versus Mexicans versus Indians versus everybody up here. I’m just doing what I’ve always done,” he says.

Former workers, their relatives and some town residents picketed across the street from the hotel.

“I do feel he’s a racist, but he’s a racist out of ignorance. He doesn’t know that what he’s doing is wrong,” says protester Juanito Burns Jr., who identified himself as prime minister of an activist group called Los Brown Berets de Nuevo Mexico.

The Virginia-born Whitten had spent 40 years in the hotel business, turning around more than 20 hotels in Texas, Oklahoma, Florida and South Carolina, before moving with his wife to Taos from Abilene, Texas. He had visited Taos before, and liked its beauty. When Whitten saw that the Paragon Inn was up for sale, he jumped at it.

The hotel sits along narrow, two-lane Paseo del Pueblo, where souped-up lowriders radiate a just-waxed gleam in the soft sunshine as they cruise past centuries-old adobe buildings. One recent afternoon, a woman slowly rode her fat-tire bicycle along a cracked sidewalk, oversized purple butterfly wings on her back and a breeze blowing her long, blonde dreadlocks.

The community includes Taos Pueblo, an American Indian dwelling inhabited for over 1,000 years, and an adobe Catholic church made famous in a Georgia O’Keeffe painting.

After he arrived, Whitten met with the employees. He says he immediately noticed that they were hostile to his management style and worried they might start talking about him in Spanish.

“Because of that, I asked the people in my presence to speak only English because I do not understand Spanish,” Whitten says. “I’ve been working 24 years in Texas and we have a lot of Spanish people there. I’ve never had to ask anyone to speak only English in front of me because I’ve never had a reason to.”

Some employees were fired, Whitten says, because they were hostile and insubordinate. He says they called him “a white (N-word).”

Fired hotel manager Kathy Archuleta says the workers initially tried to adjust to his style. “We had already gone through four or five owners before him, so we knew what to expect,” Archuleta says. “I told (the workers) we needed to give him a chance.”

Then Whitten told some employees he was changing their Spanish first names. Whitten says it’s a routine practice at his hotels to change first names of employees who work the front desk phones or deal directly with guests if their names are difficult to understand or pronounce.

“It has nothing to do with racism. I’m not doing it for any reason other than for the satisfaction of my guests, because people calling from all over America don’t know the Spanish accents or the Spanish culture or Spanish anything,” Whitten says.

Martin Gutierrez, another fired employee, says he felt disrespected when he was told to use the unaccented Martin as his name. He says he told Whitten that Spanish was spoken in New Mexico before English. “He told me he didn’t care what I thought because this was his business,” Gutierrez says.

“I don’t have to change my name and language or heritage,” he says. “I’m professional the way I am.”

After the firings, the New Mexico chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens, a national civil rights group, sent Whitten a letter, raising concerns about treatment of Hispanic workers. Whitten says he sent them a letter and posted messages on the hotel marquee, alleging that the group referred to him with a racial slur. LULAC denied the charge.

The messages and comments he made in interviews with local media, including referring to townsfolk as “mountain people” and “potheads who escaped society,” further enflamed tensions.

Taos Mayor Darren Cordova says Whitten wasn’t doing anything illegal. But he says Whitten failed to better familiarize himself with the town and its culture before deciding to buy the hotel for $2 million. “Taos is so unique that you would not do anything in Taos that you would do elsewhere,” he says.

Whitten grew subdued as a two-hour interview with The Associated Press progressed. He said he was sorry for the misunderstanding and insisted he has never been against any culture.

“What kind of fool or idiot or poor businessman would I be to orchestrate this whole crazy thing that’s costed me a lot of time, money and aggravation?” Whitten said.

Whitten should have dealt with the situation differently, especially in a majority Hispanic town, said 71-year-old Taos artist Ken O’Neil, while sipping his afternoon coffee on the town’s historic plaza.

“To make demands like he did just seems over the top,” he says. “Nobody won here. It’s not always about winning. Sometimes, it’s about what you learn.”

Brusly, Louisiana – Charles Kazmir, a 22-year-old Louisiana man has been arrested after he was caught on security camera looking into a teenage girl’s bedroom window – naked and masturbating.

According to Brusly Police, Kazmir was identified after the family of the young girl obtained surveillance video that captured him without pants outside their daughter’s bedroom window.

Investigators say the teens’ parents caught onto Kazmir’s activities when he assembled bricks outside her window to step on while peering into her room. Each time the bricks were put in their original place, Kazmir would reportedly stack them up again, prompting the girl’s parents to install a surveillance camera.

“this is to me more than a peeping tom, to take it to that level,” said police spokesperson Jamie Whaley. “He was stripped down, totally getting nude in the photos and touching himself.”

Kazmir was booked into jail on 7 counts of criminal trespass, obscenity, voyeurism, peeping tom and criminal mischief.

A man who allegedly videotaped a friend having sex with a horse at a farm in Washington state in 2005 is now accused of performing sex acts with a horse in Tennessee.

James Tait, 58, was arrested and charged Thursday with three counts of felony animal cruelty. Kenny Thomason, 44, the farm owner who lives with Tait in a Nashville suburb, was charged with two counts of the same crime.

“This is one of the most upsetting days I’ve ever dealt with,” Maury County Sheriff Enoch George said Friday, according to the Columbia Daily Herald.

Tait and Thomason were each being held on more than $100,000 bail.

According to an arrest warrant, Tait engaged in sex acts with a stud horse at the Double Branch Road farm over a span of several months.

A complaint from a citizen prompted an investigation. The person e-mailed investigators a photo of a man who appeared to be having sex with a Shetland pony.

Authorities went to the property, which Detective Terry Chandler said housed 13 horses, Shetland ponies, goats and dogs.

The detective said that it appears that people had been having sex with ponies and dogs as well as the stud horse.

Capt. Jimmy Tennyson said authorities have recovered pictures of Tait engaging in the acts with the horse.

“More charges are coming. They’ve been having sex with full-grown horses,” Chandler told The Seattle Times on Monday. “He [Tait] has been here for four years and it looks like it has been going on for some time.”

Fatal horseplay
In 2005, Tait was identified by police as having videotaped his friend Kenneth Pinyan having sex with a horse at a farm in Enumclaw, Wash., about 40 miles south of Seattle. Pinyan eventually died from internal injuries he suffered from having sex with the equine, authorities said.

Sheriff’s investigators in King County, Wash., found about 100 pornographic videos depicting Tait and others performing sex acts with animals, including the fatal incident, said Sgt. John Uruquhart.

But there were no Washington laws against bestiality at the time and there wasn’t sufficient evidence the horse had been injured.

Tait was charged with criminal trespassing. He entered an Alford plea, meaning he did not admit guilt but acknowledged a jury likely would convict him. He was sentenced to one year of probation and fined $300.

After the incident, the Washington Legislature passed a law making bestiality a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The Enumclaw case was the subject of the recent documentary “Zoo” by Seattle filmmaker Robinson Devor.

Opelousas, Louisiana – Frank Lahay, a 28-year-old Louisiana man was arrested after he was caught masturbating inside the St. Landry Parish Courthouse.

According to Opelousas Police, Lahay was caught on surveillance camera masturbating inside the St. Landry Parish Courthouse.

Investigators say Lahay was in a public hallway of the courthouse when he began masturbating in full view of the passing public. Lahay was fully exposed, using his baggy shirt to cover himself when people passed by. He was then caught on a second surveillance camera masturbating in a chair.

The alleged act continued for over an hour before a secretary realized what Lahay was doing. She alerted a supervisor who reportedly chased the man down as he attempted to flee the courthouse.

Lahay was booked into jail on charges of committing a lewd act and public indecency.

Doctor guilty of spiking pregnant lover’s drinks

A married doctor was today found guilty of twice trying to induce a miscarriage in his pregnant lover by lacing her drinks with a cocktail of prescription drugs.

Dr Edward Erin, 44, tried to poison his hospital secretary when she told him she was carrying his child after a brief affair that followed a Christmas party.

Bella Prowse, 33, told the Old Bailey that she found a yellow powder at the bottom of her cup of Earl Grey soon after telling him that she had decided to have their baby.

Ms Prowse, who was in the public gallery today, sobbed as she waited for the verdicts and buried her head in her lap. Her friends clapped when the guilty verdicts were announced.

Erin, who has a Phd in Pharmacology, claimed that his lover had concocted the mixture of drugs herself because she wanted to abort the baby but the prosecution claimed that Erin had tried to drug Ms Prowse’s drinks on three occasions in February last year.

He was found guilty of one charge of attempting to spike Ms Prowse’s Starbucks coffee and another of trying to do the same to some orange juice. But the jury found him not guilty of spiking her Earl Grey tea and could not reach a verdict on a charge of procuring drugs to induce an abortion.

Ms Prowse, 33, from Brixton, South London, gave birth to a healthy baby boy in September 2008.

Detective Chief Inspector Mickey Gallagher, said: “Edward Erin is a consultant physician, pharmacologist and honorary senior lecturer. He has been a medical professional for over 20 years, yet having failed to persuade his girlfriend, Bella Prowse, to have an abortion, he has abused his profession and position of trust, used his medical knowledge to try and bring on a miscarriage.

“This was not a morality trial, but the nature of this case in unusual in that it is only the second of it type to be brought before the courts in the last 40 years. Erin has been judged on evidence and the jury have applied good sense and fairness.”

Erin, a respiratory specialist at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, was remanded in custody until November 16 for sentencing.

Ms Prowse, who has a 13-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, said they began an affair after the office Christmas party on December 20, 2007. But by January 21 last year, she found out she was pregnant. Erin tried to persuade her to have an abortion, but she cancelled two appointments.

She wiped away tears and sobbed as told the court that had regretted an earlier abortion in 2002.

Ms Prowse said: “He said we could not have a baby. He was not ready to have a baby. He said he wanted us to have a future and that he loved me. He wanted to take me climbing and he wanted to take me skiing and this would ruin it.”

After she cancelled the first abortion clinic appointment, he had become really upset. “He was begging me and crying,” she said.

After telling him of her final decision, he went over to her south London home.

The next morning, she woke up to find him sitting up in bed. He had told her he had not slept and asked if she wanted a drink.

She said: “Ed came into the bedroom with a cup of tea and gave it to me.”

When she queried sediment she found at the bottom of the cup, he rinsed it through and told her it was scale from her kettle.

That night, Erin’s wife, Dr Lowri Erin, a microbiologist, saw him crushing tablets in their kitchen but thought nothing of it when he said it was for work.

A week later, Ms Prowse had become suspicious when they met for coffee and she noticed the lids of the cups had been removed and replaced.

She poured the coffee into a bottle without drinking it.

The following day, Erin offered her a bottle of orange juice at work. She did not drink it when she noticed the seal was broken.

Police tests on the liquid uncovered traces of Methotrexate, Diclofenac and Misoprostol.

But Erin’s wife believed his pleas of innocence. Asked if she believed Ms Prowse’s claims, she said: “Absolutely no.”

“The fact that he had relationships with other women was not that important to me,” she said. “I do not know what a conventional relationship is. We loved each other.”

Before his affair with Ms Prowse, Erin had a relationship with Dr Malin Roesner, a specialist registrar, and a woman named Angela before that.

The Crown Prosecution Service will decide in the next week whether to ask for a retrial on the charge of procuring drugs to induce an abortion, which the jury could not agree on.

Erin had been banned from working with patients by the General Medical Council pending the outcome of the case.

Sheriff: Boy-in-balloon was hoax, charges expected

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The story that a little boy had floated away in a giant helium balloon was a hoax concocted to land a reality television show, authorities said Sunday, and the boy’s parents will likely face felony charges.

The stunt two weeks in the planning was a marketing ploy by Richard and Mayumi Heene, who met in acting school in Hollywood and have appeared on the ABC reality show “Wife Swap,” Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden said. The Heenes have reportedly been working on a reality TV deal in Los Angeles.

Investigators are examining the possibility of other conspirators, “including the possibility that even some of the media outlets may have had some knowledge about this,” Alderden said.

Documents show that a media outlet has agreed to pay money to the Heenes with regards to the balloon incident, Alderden said. He didn’t name the media outlet, but said it was a show that blurs “the line between entertainment and news.” It wasn’t clear whether the deal was signed before or after the alleged hoax, or whether that media outlet was a possible conspirator.

Alderden did not name an outlet or provide any details.

“Let’s call it (my statement) short of speculation that a media outlet was in on the hoax, but let’s not discount the possibility,” he said.

Six-year-old Falcon Heene may not have even been hiding in the rafters of the family’s garage during the intense five-hour search for him Thursday, Alderden said.

“For all we know he may have been two blocks down the road playing on the swing in the city park,” the sheriff said.

The stunt temporarily shut down Denver International Airport and caused the National Guard to scramble two helicopters in an attempt to rescue the boy, who was believed to be inside the flying-saucer shaped homemade balloon that hurtled more than 50 miles across two counties.

The drama played out on live television to millions of viewers worldwide. When the balloon landed without the boy in it, officials thought he had fallen out and began grim search for his body.

In fact, the balloon — which was held together with duct tape — would not have been able to launch with the 37-pound-boy inside, Colorado State University physics professor Brian Jones has determined.

The parents weren’t under arrest, the sheriff said. He said he expected to recommend charges of conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, making a false report to authorities and attempting to influence a public servant. Federal charges were also possible.

The most serious charges are felonies and carry a maximum sentence of six years in prison and a $500,000 fine. Alderden said they would be seeking restitution for the costs, though he didn’t have an estimate.

The cost for just the two military helicopters was about $14,500.

Richard and Mayumi Heene were shopping for snacks at Wal-Mart with their three sons as Alderden told reporters that the whole thing was a hoax.

Richard Heene told The Associated Press he was “seeking counsel.”

“This thing has become so convoluted,” Heene said as tears welled in his eyes. He said his wife was holding together better than he was.

The couple’s attorney, David Lane, issued a statement later Sunday saying the Heenes were willing to voluntarily turn themselves in to face charges. Lane said he advised the family against making public statements.

The sheriff said all three of the Heenes’ sons knew of the hoax, but likely won’t face charges because of their ages. The oldest son is 10. One of the boys told investigators he saw his brother get in the balloon’s box before it launched.

Heene, 48, a storm chaser and inventor, has described himself as an amateur scientist, but Alderden said Heene has only a high school education. He most recently earned a living by laying tile, the sheriff said.

“He may be nutty, but he’s not a professor,” Alderden said.

Alderden said that during the drama, the family’s actions led them to believe the story was genuine. But during an interview on CNN Thursday night, Alderden said investigators had an “aha” moment when Falcon turned to his dad and said what sounded like “you had said we did this for a show” when asked why he didn’t come out of his hiding place.

On Friday, Falcon got sick during two separate TV interviews when asked again why he hid.

Alderden said they didn’t question the family Friday because they wanted to keep the family’s cooperation by maintaining the appearance that they believed their story. Richard Heene was asked to stop by the sheriff’s office under the pretext that he needed to pick up his balloon, and was questioned once he got there.

With Heene gone, other investigators went to the house. Alderden said they were looking for computers, e-mails, phone records and financial records.

Records show that police have responded to the house at least twice in the past year, including a possible domestic violence incident in February. No charges were filed.

Alderden said officials tried Saturday to persuade Mayumi Heene, 45, to go to a safe house, but she declined.

“We talked to her at length about domestic violence, about her safety, about her children’s safety,” the sheriff said. “We have a concern, but we didn’t have enough that would allow us or child protective services to physically take the kids from that environment.”

Alderden said the children were still with the parents Sunday and that child protective services had been contacted to investigate the children’s well-being. On “Wife Swap,” Heene was portrayed as erratic, at one point throwing a glass of milk on a participant on the program.

“Clearly, from all indications, Mr. Heene has somewhat of a temper,” Alderden said.

As to the hoax that could end up with one or both in prison:

“It certainly got big and whether anybody realized it that it would get the type of international media attention, I suspect this is probably beyond what they thought,” Alderden said.

Alderden also said investigators wanted to talk to Robert Thomas, a Denver man who claimed Heene had told him he was planning a media stunt to promote a proposed reality show. Thomas, a self-described researcher, sold his story to the Web site Gawker.com, which billed it with the headline: “Exclusive: I Helped Richard Heene Plan a Balloon Hoax.”

Web site editor-in-chief Gabriel Snyder confirmed that the site paid Thomas for his story but declined to say how much it paid him. In an e-mail to The Associated Press, Snyder said editors there had not contacted the Heene family or offered them money for their story, referring to Alderden’s reference to a deal being struck by a media outlet.

“No, that wasn’t us,” Snyder said.

Thomas, 25, did not return a message left by the AP.

In a statement, Gawker.com described how Thomas told them the hoax was part of Heene’s plan to shop a proposed reality series billed as “Mythbusters-meets-mad scientist.” Thomas told the site that the plan called for releasing a flying-saucer shaped balloon to garner attention for the Heene family, the proposed show and UFOs.

Thomas said the plan he knew about did not involve the Heenes’ children.

The producers of “Wife Swap” in a statement said they had been working with the family on developing a show but weren’t anymore. It was unclear whether that proposed show was the same one Thomas said he was working on.

She posted the snap, which features her wearing a skimpy tank top leaving little to the imagination, to illustrate her decision to stay in and read a biography of Andy Warhol.

In full public view a drunken young man urinates over a city centre war memorial, soaking wreaths of poppies laid as a tribute to the dead.

It’s a shocking scene that will appall any person, even in a country where binge-drinking has become an accepted pastime for so many.

Ironically, it will come as no surprise to discover the man concerned is a 19-year-old university student who was taking part in an organized mass pub crawl in Sheffield.

During the course of the seven-hour drinking marathon there were all too familiar scenes of debauchery.

Scantily-clad women collapsed on the street, while young men dangerously ran through passing traffic oblivious to the dangers.

Around 2,000 university students took part in the Carnage UK event. Organised through a website by a private company, students paid £10 each to take part in the drinking session on Sunday night.

For their money they got an official T-shirt and access to all seven club and bar venues involved in the event.

As dozens of students in Sheffield were drinking themselves into oblivion similar scenes were taking place in Cardiff where around 3,000 university students took part in a Carnage UK event there.

As the night progressed two people were taken away in ambulances and one was arrested by police in the Welsh capital for a nightclub assault on a woman.

Splashed across the back of the official t-shirt was a list of ‘tasks,’ including ‘have fun with a fresher, harass a steward and snog five randoms,’ which according to the event’s Facebook page needed to be fulfilled ‘by those getting in to the spirit of things.’

Many of the students were in fancy dress to adhere to the ‘doctors and nurses’ theme.

By the end of the night at least half of the students who stumbled out of Embrace nightclub in Sheffield city centre appeared worse the wear for drink.

None more so than Philip Laing, 19, a sports technology student at Sheffield Hallam University.

At around midnight he was in such a shocking state that he curled up for a sleep in front of a shop window, only to be woken by a group of giggling girls. Laing then ran across the street, falling down and hitting his head on the pavement in the process.

He was then helped to his feet and walked over to the First World War memorial in Baker’s Pool where he urinated over the monument.

People in the area seemed oblivious to his actions. But the incident was reported to security staff who washed down the memorial with buckets of water. South Yorkshire Police said if he had been seen he would have received a fixed penalty fine.

Laing at the time was in no fit state to comment, but his friend Ross White, 19, said: ‘It’s been a brilliant night so far. Every night’s a big night when you’re a student, we’ve got to get in amongst them, do you know what I mean?’

Another teenager said: ‘This is the biggest night of the year so you’ve got to make the most of it.’

By 2am the the street was littered with puddles of sick, discarded kebab wrappers, pieces of broken glass and the Carnage revellers who couldn’t make it home.

The memorial’s desecration was condemned by Russ Murray, general manager of the regional Royal British Legion.

He said: ‘Whether he has intentionally done it or not realised because of drink it is deplorable and outrageous.

This is a war memorial and stands for the sacrifices people have given in the past and continue to do so today. Behaviour like this is appalling.’

He said: ‘I am deeply ashamed of this photograph and I am sincerely sorry for my behaviour.

‘I have no recollection of the events in the photograph, although I recognise that this does not excuse my actions.

‘I apologise unreservedly for any offence I may have caused.’

Carnage UK is run by Birmingham-based Varsity Leisure Group Ltd. It operates similar events across the country, covering ‘45 student cities.’

Today Exeter University officials voiced their outrage over planned Carnage events in the city, where a student died following a binge-drinking session in 2006.

Business student Gavin Britton died on a pub crawl with the university’s golf society, just days after starting his course.

He was caught on camera the night he died standing on chairs and downing spirits – including one cocktail which contained twelve shots.

Gavin, of Barton-on-Sea, Hampshire, was found in the street still wearing his fancy dress costume.

The Carnage events are expected to take place on October 25 and November 15 in several pubs Gavin visited before his death.

Exeter Police Commander John Vellacott said: ‘We understand that Carnage UK is a legitimate company but we had a student die on a similar event.

‘Any kind of event that encourages and includes binge drinking to such an extent that medical attention is needed is not welcome.’

A spokesman for Exeter’s Student Guild added: ‘We in no way endorse this event. The message portrayed by the title and nature is not something we agree with.’

Carrying signs that read “—- off we’re full”, they paraded up and down the seafron threatening bypassers.

One 18-year-old Asian woman was injured when the gang smashed her car window, showering her in glass and causing several cuts to her arms.

There were also reports that the group attacked a taxi driven by an Indian Sikh and an Asian shopkeeper.

In scenes reminiscent of the Cronulla riots, when 5,000 white Australians congregated in the Sydney beachfront suburb and attacked Lebanese immigrants, groups of men jumped on cars that were stopped at traffic lights and chanted racist slogans to the terrified passengers.

At one point the gang was reportedly heard singing “lets go —- with these Lebs”.

Jean Hay, the mayor of Manly, said the youths came from the north-west of Sydney and were not Manly residents.

The unrest was brought under control by the late afternoon. Police charged a 16-year-old for assaulting police and three others were cautioned for offensive and dangerous behaviour.

Whitesville, Kentucky – Allison Brant, a 31-year-old principal at St. Mary of the Woods Elementary School, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly having sex with a teen boy and supplying alcohol to four other teens.

Kentucky State Police say Brant was arrested when it was learned she had had sex with a 15-year-old boy multiple times and had supplied four other teens with alcohol at her residence.

According to authorities, Brant, who was the principal at St. Mary of the Woods Elementary, had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy through December of last year through January.

Arrest reports further allege Brant supplied four teenagers, aged 16-18, with alcohol at her Whitesville home in September.

The suspect has resigned from her position as principal at St. Mary’s.

Brant was booked in to Davies County Jail on charges of 3rd degree rape, three counts of 3rd degree sodomy, and 4 counts of unlawful transactions with a minor. She is being held on $37,000 bond.

Explosives and a marijuana farm were discovered at a Southern California home doubling as a state-licensed child day care center after a man blew off four of his fingers while mixing homemade explosives, authorities said Thursday.

Benjamin Kuzelka, 23, remained hospitalized at Loma Linda Medical Center and will be arrested when he his discharged, said sheriff’s Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez. His mother, Rebecca Kuzelka, 55, and brother, Grey Kuzelka, 21, were booked Thursday on suspicion of manufacturing illegal explosives, illegal growing of marijuana and child endangerment, he said.

Authorities went to Kuzelka Family Day Care after a local hospital reported late Wednesday that Kuzelka walked in and said he had shot himself in the hand. Doctors, however, became suspicious because the wound was inconsistent with a gun shot injury and they called authorities, Gutierrez said.

Investigators found explosives, a sophisticated marijuana-growing facility and evidence that the home had been used as a state-licensed child care facility as recently as the day before, Gutierrez said. The home is on a cul-de-sac in a remote area of Riverside County about 70 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

“We do believe that when all this illegal activity was going on, that children were present,” he said. However, no children were home at the time of the explosion, authorities said.

The explosives were hidden outside and detectives believe Grey Kuzelka moved them from the garage to the backyard while his brother was seeking medical treatment, said sheriff’s Sgt. Pat Chavez.

A hazardous device team responded to the scene and defused explosives Thursday in several controlled blasts throughout the day. They left the scene by the late afternoon, Gutierrez said.

The FBI, which is also investigating, said there was no immediate indication that the case was linked to any terrorist investigation or any threat to public safety.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller referred all other questions to Gutierrez, who said he did not know what types of explosives were found at the site or how powerful they were.

Grey Kuzelka had been arrested on Saturday for investigation of possessing marijuana and concentrated cannabis, and was released the next day on $5,000 bail. Riverside County court records show Benjamin Kuzelka has a string of convictions for drunken driving and drug possession dating back several years.

A child care advocate with the state’s community licensing division, which awards day care licenses, did not immediately respond to an e-mail or phone message seeking comment.

The facility was licensed for children ages 2 to 5 and was approved for no more than eight children at a time, Chavez said.

Slidel, Louisiana – An unidentified naked man who burglarized a woman’s home Monday was captured on the home’s surveillance camera. The video captured a nude man showering, eating and having several drinks inside her home while she was away for the weekend.

According to Slidel police, the home’s 61-year-old owner had just returned from visiting her son over the weekend when she checked the home’s surveillance video system and found a surprise. An unknown man visited her home at around 1 a.m. Monday without a single thread of clothing on.

Investigators say the man knocked on the woman’s door. When no one responded, he proceeded around to the back of the house, hung out on the woman’s patio furniture and then decided it was time to go inside.

Police say the man broke out several rear windows and invited himself into the woman’s home. Once inside, the man cooked himself a meal, had several drinks and then took a shower before wrapping himself in a towel and departing the premises.

Although the intruder ransacked the woman’s home before leaving, investigators do not believe anything was stolen. Detectives believe the man might have been intoxicated when he visited the home. (ya think?)

Despite video of the suspect and a number of identifying tattoos, police say they have received few clues about the man’s identify.

Stuart, Florida – Robert Stark Higgins, a 21-year-old Florida man was arrested Saturday after he broke into a resident’s backyard and jumped naked into a pool while covered with feces.

According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, a naked Higgins, who was covered with feces, broke into a resident’s backyard and helped himself to the resident’s pool.

Deputies say the resident became alarmed when he heard Higgins crash through the screen of his pool and proceed to go for a swim. Higgens then reportedly grabbed a towel and fled the scene.

Higgins, who deputies said had been drinking, was arrested a short time later.

He was booked into the Martin County Jail on charges of burglary to an occupied dwelling, disorderly conduct and misdemeanor theft. Bail was set at $10,500.

St. Johnsbury, Vermont – Brenda Simard-Reid, a 40-year-old Vermont woman was arraigned Monday on charges she sent a 13-year-old girl photographs of humans having sex with donkeys.

According to police, an investigation was launched after a 13-year-old girl’s foster parents discovered the teen had been sent photographs of humans having sex with animals, including donkeys. The incident was then reported to the Vermont Department of Children and Families.

Investigators say the images were sent to the teen’s phone by Simard-Reid, who is reportedly a relative of the victim. The images were sent last May, according to court records.

Simard-Reid was booked into jail on six counts of disseminating indecent material to a minor. She pleaded not guilty to all six counts. Simard Reid’s attorney argued that other individuals had access to the phone and could have sent the photographs.

The victim’s phone was confiscated because she was viewing the images while riding the school bus.

Panama City Beach, Florida  – Jessica and John Paul Huskey were in the midst of a meth high Tuesday when their son’s skull was fractured with a nail. But instead of seeking help for their son’s injuries, they reportedly wrapped his head with duct tape so they could continue “tweaking” on meth.

According to Panama City Beach investigators, the couple’s toddler suffered a fractured skull Tuesday after John Paul Huskey, 28, allegedly jumped on a chair. The chair reportedly broke apart – launching a nail into the child’s skull. But instead of calling for help, the couple wrapped the boy’s head in duct tape and continued to use meth.

Investigators say the boy didn’t receive medical attention until the next morning when John Paul finally called 911 from his cell phone.

Jessica allegedly awoke Wednesday morning to find her child sick and “turning colors”, according to police.

When emergency crews arrived at the couple’s apartment, deputies found Jessica, the injured child and a 4-year-old child inside. The toddler was flown to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola where he is now listed in critical condition. The couple’s 4-year-old child was taken into protective custody.

Jessica told investigators they did not take the boy to the hospital because she was high and they were concerned about what authorities might find at their apartment, according to Sgt. Steve Nagy of the Panama City Beach Sheriff’s Office.

John Huskey was booked into the Panama City Beach Jail on charges of aggravated child abuse, possession of meth, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Deputies added an additional charge of dealing in stolen property when it was discovered he stole an iPod Touch out of a vehicle and attempted to sell it to a pawn shop in September.

Jessica Huskey was booked on charges of aggravated child abuse, possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bail in both cases have not yet been made available.

What Berlusconi’s Tan Obama ‘Jokes’ Say About Italy

It was the gaffe heard around the globe. Last November, just two days after Barack Obama’s historic election victory, the world’s collective jaw dropped when Silvio Berlusconi quipped that the next U.S. President was “young, handsome and even has a good tan.”

Though the Italian Prime Minister refused to apologize for the failed attempt at humor, Obama and his aides gave Berlusconi a pass. The incoming President was not going to be sidetracked by a diplomatic incident with a man already notorious as a loose cannon. Berlusconi kept his place that week on Obama’s initial round of phone calls to world leaders, with the “tan” remark firmly off the agenda and both sides hailing strong relations between the key transatlantic allies.

 Strangely, it is Berlusconi who has not let the incident rest. He called his critics “imbeciles,” saying the remark was meant as a compliment. “We’d all like to be tanned like Naomi Campbell and Obama,” he said two weeks after the original one-liner. He has made other references to it in the months since. (See Berlusconi’s worst gaffes.)

 And then on Sunday, he dropped the abbronzato bomb again. Having returned from the G-20 meeting in Pittsburgh, he told supporters in Milan that he carried greetings from “someone tan, what’s his name? Barack Obama!” Not satisfied, he continued, “You will not believe it, but the two of them went together to get some sun at the beach, because the wife is also tanned.”

 The conventional wisdom in Italy, in both press and political circles, seems to be that it’s just Berlusconi being Berlusconi. The latest quip got only passing notice from Italy’s center-left opposition, which is more focused on Berlusconi’s ongoing sex scandal. Even the leading leftist daily, La Repubblica, referred to the remarks as the latest “Berlusconi Show.” (See pictures of Italy.)

 But that’s telling in itself. In many ways, mainstream Italian society is several generations behind the rest of the West when it comes to race. In supposedly polite company, one can still hear the word negro, (pronounced neh-grow) which essentially translates to the N word. A cleaning woman is often generically referred to as a “Filippina.” Northern Italians joke that darker-skinned southerners are “Moroccans.”

 Unlike some of his political allies, Berlusconi has never seemed to suffer from mean-spirited racism. Still, his eagerness to continue cracking racial jokes shows how outdated he and a big chunk of Italian society are. The lack of outrage from ordinary Italians compounds the crime. (Read “The Berlusconi Tapes: 5 Ways to Evade the Scandal.”)

 Does that mean it’s up to the White House to tell Berlusconi basta? During the 2008 campaign, Republican political consultant Grover Norquist was lambasted by Obama supporters for describing the candidate as “John Kerry with a tan.” But when it comes to Silvio, the Administration seems to want to play it cool. The U.S. embassy in Rome declined this week to comment on the latest quip. Asked Wednesday by TIME about the remarks, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said, “There are far bigger issues in the world than this.”

 That’s true. And no doubt the issues of any perceived political incorrectness – and potential racial reverberations – are trickier to handle when the offender is the leader of a NATO ally. But Berlusconi’s prominence is the point, and as the first black leader of the most powerful nation on earth, Obama is seen as a model by many countries struggling to integrate people of different races and religions.  In Italy, where immigration has skyrocketed in the past decade, racism is becoming a front-burner issue. Aly Baba Faye, regional director in Rome of the Anti-Racism Observatory, says the Prime Minister’s comments are indicative of attitudes in Italy and unhelpful in changing prejudices. “Berlusconi thinks he’s funny, but he’s not,” says Faye, an Italian citizen who emigrated from Senegal 30 years ago. “For one world leader to talk about the skin color of another is utterly disrespectful and sets a bad example for ordinary folk.” Faye says Berlusconi’s comments make it more likely that people on the street in Rome will make a crack about the color of his or his children’s skin.  Faye, who was head of Italy’s first pro-Obama initiative during the 2008 campaign, says he understands the President’s not wanting to turn the issue into a diplomatic affair. “But someone has to make him stop. Maybe just a private note through the embassy?” Or maybe the next time he sees Berlusconi, Obama himself can lean over and say, “Hey Silvio, you know the tan jokes? Basta.”

Germany is traditionally tolerant of nudity, but a plan to give naked ramblers their own wilderness path is still some way from the sunny uplands.

A campsite manager, Heinz Ludwig, aims to establish Germany’s first official naked ramblers’ footpath – an 18km (11-mile) route in the Harz Mountains.

“But some people are against – it is not directly supported by the community,” he told BBC News.

“I want people to calm down, then we’ll try again next year.”

But he says fans of Freikoerperkultur – Free Body Culture, or FKK for short – have expressed support for the scheme. It would attract naturists to the Wippra and Dankerode areas, in the central German mountain range.

Fully-clothed walkers would be free to use the path, too.

“It’s a secluded area, away from traffic,” Mr Ludwig said. “In the GDR [former communist East Germany] people used to bathe there, too.”

He says some keen naturists have already tested the trail. The plan is to open it officially next May.

A sign has been put up warning those averse to naturism that they might prefer to go elsewhere.

“If you don’t want to see people with nothing on then you should refrain from moving on,” it reads.

The path is overgrown in places, so some funding would be needed to tidy it up and maintain it, Mr Ludwig said.

A Muslim-hating Long Island man threatened to murder two women wearing traditional Islamic robes, then tried to run them over at a gas station, police said yesterday.

“This isn’t Halloween! Get into my car so I can f- – - the s- – - out of you, chop you into little pieces and kill you,” Joseph Ballance screamed, according to one of the women.

Ballance, a 23-year-old self-employed landscaper, admitted to investigators he wanted to cut up the women.

“They don’t belong here,” he told detectives, adding, “They shouldn’t be walking around like that.”

Ballance allegedly confronted Chervern Cartier, 49, and her 20-year-old daughter on Aug. 20 in the parking lot of a Hess gas station in Smithtown.

He was enraged because the women were dressed in black Muslim robes, with only their eyes showing, police said.

After the alleged threat, Cartier began writing down the license plate of Ballance’s 1994 Mercury.

He spat on their car, then got into the Mercury, put it in reverse and tried to back over them, the women told cops.

The women were unhurt and Ballance roared off.

“He is full of hatred,” Suffolk County Detective Sgt. Robert Reecks said. “He saw them, the way they were dressed, and it just set him off.”

Ballance was picked up by police at his Islandia home yesterday and held on a charge of second-degree aggravated harassment, a misdemeanor hate crime.

“This kind of behavior has no place in Suffolk,” County Executive Steve Levy said, adding the county would prosecute offenders “to the fullest extent of the law.”

The woman said the man then drove his car so close to hers that she couldn’t open the gas cap and he “kept striking a match on a matchbook like if I was to start pumping the gas he would throw the match at me,” according to the statement.

In a statement signed by Ballance, he said that while he was at the station, “two people dressed for Halloween looking like the wicked witch,” pulled in.

But Muslim leaders criticized the charge as too lenient, and pressed for federal civil rights charges.

Nayyar Imam, president of the Islamic Association of Long Island in Selden, said he would request to meet with authorities about the charges. “These charges have to be ramped up,” he said. “It’s unacceptable.”

Author Lisa Reardon Jailed for shooting Father’s behind

Detroit, Michigan  – Lisa Ann Reardon, a 47 year old novelist was arrested Friday after she allegedly shot her father in the ass, hopped in a car and fled the scene.

According to police, Reardon shot her father, George Hicks, in the buttocks and leg as he retreated inside his Dexter Township home. She then reportedly fired a few more shots through the door before fleeing the scene in her car.

Investigators say Reardon called her sister from the car to say she was upset and that she “couldn’t believe that she missed and wouldn’t ever get a chance to do it again.”

Authorities believe Reardon showed up at her father’s residence around 7:30 p.m. with a 20-gauge shotgun and then opened fire after arguing with her parents. Washtenaw deputies found her a short time later and took her into custody. A motive has not yet been released as to why the attack occurred.

Reardon is the author of “The Mercy Killers”, “Billy Dead”, and “Blameless.” She has also written several plays including Dove, a story of a man who is driven insane by a bird.

Reardon was booked into the Washtenaw County Jail on charges of assault with intent to murder, felony firearm and commission of a felony with a motor vehicle advisory. A preliminary hearing has been set for Sept. 1st.

White Man barricades himself in van, yells threats, strips naked before arrest

WILLIAMS, Ore. — A 70-year-old armed man barricaded himself in a van and yelled threats from the window before he stripped naked and was arrested Sunday afternoon.

Raymond Lawrence Roberson, was telling people near the Provolt Store that he would blow up his van if approached. Roberson, 5′10″ and 145 pounds, was armed with a rifle.

Once police arrived, Williams Highway was shut down for about an hour in both directions and nearby residents were evacuated.

News10 was on scene and video shows Roberson stepping out of the van at one point, taking off his clothes, then getting back inside.

That’s when police tackled him and dragged him away from the parking lot before arresting him for menacing and disorderly conduct.

Police secured his rifle and found his threat to blow up his van was not credible.

2 Teens catch White Police Officer Masturbating in Public

Santa Barbara, CA – Brian Sawicki, a 33 year old Santa Barbara police officer, was taken into custody on Monday after he was allegedly seen masturbating on a public beach.

According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, two young teenage girls told park rangers they witnessed Sawicki committing a lewd act after he followed behind them on a trail just north of Goleta.

Investigators say the girls then stumbled onto Sawicki, who’s genitals were exposed as he was engaged in public masturbation.

The girls alerted authorities as Sawicki attempted to flee the scene. The suspect was arrested moments later after a brief pursuit on foot.

“I am shocked and deeply disappointed that a member of my department is the subject of this investigation, but I want to assure the public that the department is taking all necessary steps to ensure the public is protected and the investigation is completed in a fair and impartial manner,” said Santa Barbara Police Chief, Cam Sanchez.

Officer Sawicki has officially been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

He was detained at the Santa Barbra County Jail on charges of Annoying or Molesting a Child, Indecent Exposure, and Obstructing/Resisting a Peace Officer. Bond was set at $2,500.

There is no word yet indicating whether an impending misdemeanor conviction will cost Sawicki his badge or impair his ability to return to active duty once the case has reached its completion.

White man Arrested for Hiding Dismembered Body In Home

CINCINNATI — A Delhi Township man is facing charges after police reportedly found a dismembered body hidden in his home.

Police arrested 30-year-old John Strutz on Sunday evening following a search of his home on Greenwell Avenue.

Strut’z attorney, Simon Groner, says his client couldn’t find his wife, Kristan, 28, on Saturday and called police after checking with a relative who also didn’t know where she was.

Strutz is currently charged with tampering with evidence and obstructing official business. According to police documents, he hid the human remains in an attempt to “impair its value or availability as evidence” in their investigation. He is not charged with murder at this time.

Groner said his client gave police permission to search his home, and that as far as he knew, the only items seized were several bottles of bleach.

Police have not released any information about the body; however, 9News has learned that it was of an adult and was significantly dismembered.

“It’s freeking me out. I always thought this was a very safe neighborhood, with safe neighbors. I’ve never seen an investigation of a dismembered body… Or a murder. I don’t want anything like that to happen to my kids or to me,” said neighbor Tara Hanning.

Neighbors are asking if he might have killed his wife and dismembered her.

Detectives are currently searching the riverbank near the Anderson Ferry. Divers were in the Ohio River near the ferry late Monday afternoon. Officials are not saying if this search has any connection to the case.

Kristan worked at a nearby nursing home, but had been on leave since an ankle injury and was due to return to work in November. Co-workers at the nursing home tell 9News they are greatly upset Kristan is missing and hope that she is still alive.

Sources tell 9News that a murder charge is likely.

Strutz appeared in Hamilton County Court Monday morning, where a judge ordered him held on over $1 million.

Groner asked for a low bond because the couple has young children, but authorities persuaded the judge to set a high bond while they continue to investigate.

Specifically, he received a $1 million bond for the tampering with evidence charge and an additional $10,000 bond for the charge of obstructing official business.

Crime scene investigators remained at the home all day.

Officials have not released any other information at this time.

The book’s author, Maria Latella, claims the couple have been urged to formally separate but for Lario ‘return to her husband’s side to help him find himself again… also with a stay in one of those clinics specialising in curing sex dependence’.

Police are on the hunt for a gang of young boys who tried to hang a seven-year-old with a homemade ‘noose’ in a game.

Bradley McLachlan had been playing with the gang, believed to be just seven, eight and nine, before they restrained him and strung him from a tree with a length of rope.

Terrified Bradley was then left for dead – the loop choking him as he hung just inches from the ground.

Fortunately he managed to lift himself out using his arms and a passer-by helped him back to his grandmother’s house.

Police have said young Bradley is lucky to be alive after his horrific ordeal.

A month after the incident at Bransbury Park, Portsmouth, Hants, detectives are no closer to finding out who tried to hang Bradley.

And his family have now come forward with a fresh appeal for information.
Bradley’s mother Sharleen, 30, from Portsmouth, Hants, said she was overcome with shock when she found out what had happened to her son.

She said: “I felt sick and shocked that someone could do this, not least that other children had done it.

“This wasn’t just a game that went wrong, it’s far more serious. I just can’t get my head around it.”  Within an hour of the incident, on Tuesday July 28, rope-burn marks appeared around Bradley’s neck – prompting his distressed family to call an ambulance.

Mrs McLachlan said: “There were marks under his chin and they went right up around the back of his head, that’s when we called the ambulance.”

Bradley was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, Portsmouth, where doctors checked him over before giving him the all-clear.

Police feared Bradley may have died had he not managed to escape from the noose.
Mrs McLachlan added: “The police officers said he could have died if it wasn’t for him being so small and light.

“If he’d been heavier, they said he wouldn’t have been able to lift himself out.”

Bradley’s grandmother, Jenny McLachlan, 48, said: “He could have died, it was awful.

“He’d only been out playing for a few minutes, the next thing we knew an older boy had brought him to the door.

“He had marks around his neck where some other kids had tied the rope.”

Bradley made a statement to police after the incident and the investigation is still ongoing.

Detectives say the gang is too young to be prosecuted but would like to talk to them about the consequences of their actions.

Detective Sergeant Fiona Holland said: “We need to speak to the children involved to ensure they understand the possible consequences of the incident and ensure whilst they are out playing during the summer holidays they are also staying safe.”

White man Arrested After Stealing Beer Cooler From Yacht Club, Fell Asleep Before He Could Get Away

Daytona Beach, FL – Scott Riley, a 28-year-old Florida man was arrested after he reportedly stole a cooler of beer, but then fell asleep before making his get-away.

According to Daytona Beach Police, Riley broke into the Halifax River Yacht Club’s Tiki Bar Sunday night and stole a beer cooler from the club.

Investigators say Riley didn’t get far. He was found passed out across the street from the yacht club.

Next to him were several bottles of beer and a blue cooler that was marked with the club’s name.

Riley was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on burglary charges. He is being held in lieu of $2,500 bail.

A 43-year-old Sheboygan man was charged Monday after allegedly standing naked in the door of his apartment on several occasions.

David C. Meyer, of 1427 N. 10th St., Apt. 301, is charged with misdemeanor lewd and lascivious behavior, which carries a maximum penalty of nine months in jail.

According to a criminal complaint: Another apartment resident called police about 9 p.m. Sunday after spotting Meyer standing naked in the doorway and touching himself. The neighbor said Meyer had done this in the past and been warned not to do so by the apartment manager.

Meyer, who smelled of alcohol, was wearing shorts but nothing else when officers arrived. He denied standing naked in the doorway, stating he was wearing underwear while standing in the open doorway.

Meyer is on probation for an August 2007 felony stalking offense in which he repeatedly drove past two 12-year-old girls because he was attracted to them, according to Sheboygan Press archives. Meyer was sentenced to 90 days in jail for the offense but was allowed to serve the time on electronic monitoring in order to get in-patient mental health treatment.

That sentence concluded Aug. 3.

Meyer was convicted in 1997 of four misdemeanor counts of exposing genitals to a child.

Gazprom-Nigeria deal NIGAZ sparks racist debate

It probably seemed a good idea at the time. But Russia’s attempt to create a joint gas venture with Nigeria is set to become one of the classic branding disasters of all time ‑ after the new company was named Nigaz.

The venture was agreed last week during a four-day trip by Russia’s president Dmitry Medvedev to Africa. The deal between Russia’s Gazprom and Nigeria’s state oil company was supposed to show off the Kremlin’s growing interest in Africa’s energy reserves.

Instead, the venture is now likely to be remembered for all the wrong reasons ‑ as a memorable PR blunder, worse than Chevrolet’s Nova, which failed to sell in South America because it translates as “doesn’t go” in Spanish.

Alert users of Twitter first highlighted the unfortunate English connotations of Nigaz, which appears to have eluded Medevedev’s Russian-speaking delegation.

Writing on Monday, shunty 75 observed: “Nigaz is the name for the new Gazprom Nigeria venture. They need a new PR outfit. NO WAY!! Haha!!” Other twitterers also derided the name.

An article in Brand Republic pointed out the obvious: that the name has “rather different connotations” for English-speakers.

It recalled other international branding mishaps including the Ford Pinto ‑ which in Brazil means small penis ‑ and the Pepsi slogan “come alive with the Pepsi generation”. In Taiwan this rousing motto translated as “Pepsi will bring your ancestors back from the dead”.

It is unclear why nobody alerted Medevedev to the blunder. But one possible explanation is that the offending word is still widely used in Russia, and was even famously employed by the poet Vladimir Mayokovsky in the 1920s.

The new company Nigaz plans to invest at least $2.5bn (£1.5bn) in oil and gas exploration and aims to build refineries, pipelines and gas power stations across Nigeria.

“We have a chance to become major energy partners,” Medvedev declared last week following a meeting with Nigeria’s presient Umaru Yar’Adua in the capital Abuja.

Police use Taser to light Homeless Man on Fire

“Don’t break the law(being a homeless person) or we’ll set you on fire.”

It didn’t take Lancaster police long to discover a potential danger with their newly issued stun guns: They can set their targets on fire.

One day after officers received Tasers this week, two of them were patting out the flames on Daniel Wood, a 31-year-old homeless man who reportedly had been inhaling a chemical from a spray can to get high. Wood was not seriously injured but was taken to a hospital as a precaution, said Lancaster Police Chief David Bailey.

“Clearly, this is not the way we’d hoped to get started,” Bailey said. “But I’m glad the suspect is OK, and this gives us an opportunity to review how we will do things from this point.”

The makers of stun guns warn that such fires are extremely rare but a risk nonetheless, and Lancaster’s written policy for the department’s seven new Tasers says that the devices shouldn’t be used when flammable materials are evident.

Bailey said his officers acted appropriately given the situation and Wood’s combative behavior.

“There was no recognition on the part of these officers that this would be the result,” Bailey said. “They didn’t know the vapor was present and would flash. … It wasn’t as if the suspect was doused in a chemical.”

CNN reported last month that a man in Australia who had been huffing a chemical poured gasoline on himself as he charged police. An officer used a stun gun, and that man burst into flames and was seriously injured.

And a man died in Texas in 2007 after police hit him with pepper spray and then jolted him with a stun gun, according to published reports.

Authorities in both cases said the men were carrying lighters in their hands, so the source of ignition couldn’t be determined for certain.

In Lancaster, the officers responded just after 8 p.m. Monday to a report of a man darting into traffic and yelling threats outside the Kmart on Memorial Drive.

When the two officers arrived, Wood was holding a can of keyboard cleaner in his hand, and one of the officers saw him inhale the chemical, according to a written report.

Wood took off running and, once caught, kicked the officers and tried to bite them, the report says. That’s when an officer used his stun gun, hitting Woods in the chest and an arm with the charged prongs.

“I then observed a flame ignite and I quickly shut off the Taser,” wrote the officer, identified only as H.W. Lanham. “(I) approached him and patted out the flame.”

Wood has a history of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and alcohol and drug charges in Fairfield County Municipal Court.

He was charged on Monday with resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and abusing harmful intoxicants and taken to the Fairfield County jail. He was released about 11:30 p.m. Monday and rearrested yesterday when he failed to show up in court.

Arizona-based Taser International has sold 430,000 devices to law-enforcement officers at 14,750 agencies. Spokesman Steve Tuttle said the warnings about possible ignition are clear but that the incident described in Lancaster “is beyond freakish.”

Lancaster police officers have spent the last four months training under an instructor certified by the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy, Bailey said. Officers also had to pass a qualifying test.

Spokesmen for both the State Highway Patrol and the Columbus Division of Police, where most troopers and officers carry stun guns, said their training is extensive, and that their respective policies also warn of the risk of fire.

Black man fights off 3 white supremacists

Many people were shocked by the video that surfaced recently of three young Caucasian men apparently swarming a lone black man in a strip mall parking lot on a hot summer night in the Vancouver Island city of Courtenay.

But having to fight because of his skin colour was no surprise for that black man, 38-year-old Jay Phillips. It was just history repeating itself.

His father also had to defend himself in B.C. because he was black.

On Friday, David Samuel White, 19, Adam David Huber, 24, and Robert William Rodgers, 25, were charged with assaulting Phillips on the evening of July 3, in an apparent racist attack captured on video and broadcast on the Internet.

The trio were allegedly involved in a separate attack on a young Caucasian man later that evening, RCMP Const. Tammy Douglas told The Province.

Phillips and his mother, Kirsten, who is Caucasian, responded to the charges in separate interviews with The Province.

Both remembered Jay’s father Reginald Phillips, who died before Christmas, as a man who taught his son to be proud of his colour and to defend himself.

Reginald and Kirsten first started dating in the 1960s in Prince Rupert.

“He was the only black man in town, dating a white woman, so of course he had to fight plenty,” Jay Phillips said with a laugh.

Racially-motivated fights continued in various B.C. towns, Kirsten said.

Reginald taught Jay Phillips to box from a young age, both mother and son recalled. Those skills are apparent in the July 3 video, as Phillips, a 210-pound man who can bench press 300 pounds, fought three men to a draw at the very least.

But it’s the way Jay has acted after the fight that Reginald would most appreciate, Kirsten said.

“He’d be extremely proud of the way Jason is handling this with his brain.” “He’d be beaming; he’d be so proud that I did this the right way,” Jay said. “My dad told me stand up for yourself — don’t be racist. Don’t take s— from anyone.” The family is well aware that the video of Phillips repelling three brawlers has become an Internet sensation. But the ugly incident can be used to teach and spark dialogue, they say.

Initially, Kirsten felt the gut-wrenching emotion of a mother watching her son on the pavement getting hammered by six fists.

“My heart stood still and I still choke up when I watch the video,” she said. “But I had to cheer when Jason got up and they started to scatter like little flies.” “It shows racism is alive and well,” she added. “First and foremost, people are talking about it.” Phillips says the media sensation around his actions has led to offers to teach in classrooms and even run for politics, as he proves he can “speak well” with his message against racism and gang-up attacks.

“I was at a rally [in Courtenay against racism] and eight mothers came up to me and said the same thing has happened to their kids,” he said.

“There’s a mentality bubbling up [with bullying and fighting in Courtenay] and I don’t want to see it explode.” Phillips says he will eventually show the now-famous fight video to his baby son, Malik. And like his father taught him, he’ll teach the boy to box.

“I’ll let him know racism is out there. I just hope he doesn’t have to go through this.” Before they were charged, the alleged attackers appeared in a TV interview with faces obscured under hooded sweaters. They admitted to racist language easily heard on the video, but claimed racial motivation in the fight was “blown out of proportion.” “We’re not white supremacists,” one said.

Police have presented evidence to Crown prosecutors and if the three are convicted, a judge will decide whether hate-crime law is warranted during sentencing, RCMP say.

Phillips told The Province he’s convinced he was the victim of a hate crime, but he’s not at all interested in vengeance on the three.

In fact, he hopes they get proper instruction — in the justice system.

“They’re young and stupid, so hopefully they’ll learn from this,” Phillips said.

“You start running around and doing this kind of stuff and sooner or later, someone loses their life.”

Bollywood star detained after racial profiling

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who plays a Muslim mistaken for a terrorist in his latest film, says he was racially profiled at Newark Airport and detained for two hours on Friday.

The 43-year-old “Tom Cruise of India” – cited last year by Newsweek as one of the world’s 50 most influential men – was released only after Indian diplomats intervened.

“I was really being hassled, perhaps because of my name being Khan,” the international box office sensation charged Saturday in a text message to reporters.

“These guys wouldn’t let me through.”

Khan, who has appeared in more than 70 films, said he was waiting for his luggage Friday when his name popped up on a computer alert list. Security then pulled him aside.

“Absolutely uncalled for, I think,” Khan said. “I felt angry and humiliated.”

Khan said he endured two hours of interrogation before he was allowed to call the Indian embassy in Washington. An official there vouched for the star, who was then released.

“I was really taken aback,” Khan told an Indian television station. “I did not want to say anything just in case they took everything wrong, because I am a little worried about Americans because they do have this issue when your name is Muslim.”

Officials at U.S. Customs and Border Protection did not answer multiple inquiries Saturday about the case.

The actor insisted he had all the proper paperwork when he was brought to a detention room at the New Jersey airport. But, he said, Khan “is a Muslim name, and I think the name is common on their checklist.”

New Dehli-based U.S. Ambassador Timothy Roemer said officials were trying to “ascertain the facts of the case.”

“Shah Rukh Khan, the actor and global icon, is a very welcome guest in the United States,” Roemer said Saturday. “Many Americans love his films.”

But there were no Bollywood buffs in Newark as Khan came through the airport on his way to Chicago for a celebration of India’s independence day.

“I told them I am a movie star,” Khan said – although the line fell on deaf ears.

He recently signed a deal with Fox Star Studios to finance and distribute his new movie, “My Name is Khan” – the story of a Muslim man mistaken for a terrorist in post-9/11 America.

The incident caused outrage in his homeland, where the Khan-troversy dominated television news.

Last month, Continental Airlines apologized to former Indian President Abdul Kalam for frisking him at New Delhi’s airport.

White man arrested for having sex with a car

A 46-year-old man was indicted Thursday by a Bernalillo County grand jury for performing simulated sex acts on his car in an Albuquerque parking lot.

Patrick Davis, spokesman for the district attorney’s office, reports that Danny Brawner was seen by an off-duty police officer and the officer’s 10 year old son performing the simulated sex acts in a grocery store parking lot near Coors and Central in late July.

“Witnesses, including two children, told police that their attention was drawn to Brawner because his pants were around his ankles, he was swinging his arms in the air and shouting while he was ‘humping’ the trunk of his car,” Davis reports in a press release.

When officers arrived, Brawner had passed out next to the vehicle and appeared to be intoxicated, according to Davis.

Brawner was indicted on two felony counts of aggravated indecent exposure, according to Davis, who says he could face four years in jail and mandatory counseling if convicted.

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) – Clackamas County Sheriff’s Patrol personnel arrested the subject authorities dubbed as the “shoe fetish man”; who is believed responsible for a series of related crimes involving female shoe shoppers – occurring in both Clackamas County and Medford, Oregon.

46-year old Steven George Bronson was arrested Wednesday, August 05, 2009 at approximately 4:45 p.m.

Detective Jim Strovink, Spokesman for the Clackamas Sheriff’s Office, says that on July 16th & 17th, Clackamas County Sheriff’s first received reports of a male subject approaching women in businesses and asking these unsuspecting females to place a shoe from the store display onto their foot for a personal opinion.

“The reported ploy was to have the targeted female place the shoe on her foot – with his assistance – at which time the suspect would begin to moan; while rubbing their feet and legs, even to the extent of licking the upper-thigh of one startled and enraged female victim.”

Strovink says that during that particular incident, a female victim began to deliberately draw a lot of attention to her and the suspect by raising her voice loudly.

“That caused the suspect to flee the store. This brave victim immediately alerted a Target Store, Loss Prevention Agent as to this criminal incident; which resulted in the suspect’s store surveillance image being circulated in a Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office bulletin.”

He continued by saying, “Most significantly, the media ran with this unusual and disconcerting story featuring the surveillance images of the suspect and alerted the public to this criminal activity.”

On Friday, July 31st, Strovink says Clackamas County Sheriff’s were contacted by Medford Police, declaring the same type of criminal activity was now occurring in the Medford area; with at least four female victims who were reporting the same suspect description and criminal conduct.

Strovink says they learned that, “One of these Medford victims is described to be only 15-years old.” He continued, “Again, over the August 1st weekend additional reports were received by Clackamas County Sheriff’s, revealing the same criminal activity had occurred at a Ross Dress for Less, on SE 82nd Avenue and again at the Target Store, on SE Sunnyside Road, in Happy Valley.”

At 4:47 p.m. an on the alert female citizen called the Clackamas County Emergency Dispatch Center, telling dispatchers she recognized a male subject who had been featured on news broadcasts saying, “that had something to do with this man approaching woman in stores”.

“This keen-eyed citizen told dispatchers this subject just exited a beige colored vehicle displaying California license plate number 3EBN251.”

Strovink says this citizen continued to provide dispatchers with a very accurate description of the subject she observed presently walking from his vehicle parked in the area of the Willamette Falls Urgent Care Center / Woman’s Health Center; located at 9775 SE Sunnyside Road, in Happy Valley. Dispatched Clackamas County Sheriff’s Patrol deputies arrived in the area in time to observe this described male subject entering the Willamette Falls Urgent Care Center.

The deputies immediately surrounded the building and secured all available exits.

At 5:34 p.m. Clackamas County Deputies made contact with this subject inside the Care Center, and with probable cause to arrest, he was taken into custody without incident.

46-year old Steven George Bronson has no confirmed current address.

Strovink says it has also been discovered Steven Bronson has an established criminal history in the State of California, Nevada and Washington.

Bronson was transported from the scene to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, in Oregon City.

At that time, Bronson was interviewed by detectives and then lodged in the Clackamas County Jail for 2 counts of third-degree Sex Abuse.

Steven Bronson was arraigned on this criminal matter in the Clackamas County Circuit Court Today, August 6th, 2009, at 3:00 p.m.

The vehicle Bronson was observed operating and registered in his name is described as a beige colored, 1993, Mercury, 4-door sedan, with California license number 3EBN251.

This automobile was towed from the scene by Clackamas County Sheriff’s Detectives for an anticipated forensic search of this vehicle.

Salem, Oregon – Randall Joseph Giesbers, a 47-year-old Salem man, was arrested Monday when he was caught wearing women’s underwear in a neighbor’s garage.

Lt. Sheila Lorance of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office states police were responding to a report of a burglary in progress from the home’s resident, an unnamed 31-year-old woman, who advised them there was a man in her garage wearing ladies’ undergarments.

Lorance went on to say that when authorities arrived at the scene the woman’s boyfriend was holding the suspect down.

The boyfriend told police that his girlfriend identified the clothes the man wore as hers and that they had been stolen from her garage.

Deputies report that when they subsequently went to the Giesbers’ home across the street, they discovered several more bags filled with women’s clothes, underwear, shoes, and accessories.

The woman also identified some of these items as hers, and went on to say that she had noticed clothes missing from her garage several months ago. Deputies also found a stash of illegal fireworks, which were seized by Oregon State Police.

Randall was booked in to Marion County Jail on charges of theft, 10 counts of burglary, 10 counts of criminal trespassing, and 42 counts of possessing illegal fireworks.

White man tricks woman into changing his diapers for 3 months

Melbourne, Florida – Janet Schulte, a Melbourne, Florida woman has filed a complaint with Florida authorities claiming she was duped into changing an adult male’s diapers for three months believing he was mentally disabled. She later discovered he didn’t have a disability at all.

“I consented to change his diapers, but I legitimately thought this man needed help,” said Schulte. “How can that not be a crime for him to come into my house and expose himself?”

According to Schulte, the ruse began when she placed an ad on Craigslist offering child care services. That’s when a man reportedly called, asking if she knew any special needs caregivers.

Schulte says the man explained that her brother had been injured in a car accident and suffered from physical and mental disabilities – including weak arms, bladder control problems and the mental capacity of a child. He then reportedly offered her $600 a month to care for his brother.

Schulte told the Brevard County Sheriff’s office she cared for the man for three months – changing his diapers, massaging his head and bottle feeding him at her home.

She later discovered the man and brother were the same person after her husband became suspicious and followed him away from their home where he was seen getting into a vehicle and driving away.

Schulte took her complaint to Brevard County deputies who took the case to prosecutors. Prosecutors refused to pursue charges, saying Schulte was paid for services she agreed to provide.

When deputies questioned the man, he reportedly admitted to the scam but claimed he was suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome.

Florida Man blames Cat for the kiddie porn on his computer

Jensen Beach, FL – Keith Griffin, a 48-year-old Jensen Beach man, was arrested Wednesday after he blamed his cat for downloading child pornography to his computer.

According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Griffin was arrested at his home after detectives discovered over 1,000 images on his computer, many of which depicted child pornography.

Investigators say Griffin told them that his cat would jump on the keyboard while he was attempting to download music.

When he returned to the computer he claimed to have found “strange things” had been downloaded – presumably by his frisky feline.

Police didn’t buy his story. Griffin was booked in to Marin County Jail on 10 counts of possession of child pornography and is being held in lieu of a $250,000 bond.

Jacksonville, NC  – Leslie Denise Nichols, a 39-year-old Camp Lejuene family readiness officer was arrested last week on accusations she forced a preteen to engage in sex acts.

According to Jacksonville Police, Nichols instructed a 9-year-old child to penetrate her with an “electronic stimulus device.” She then allegedly told the preteen to practice giving her oral sex.

Officers pointed out that Nichols was employed as a civilian family support counselor – not a U.S. Marine. She was terminated on Aug. 4th.

Nichols was booked into the Onslow County Jail on five counts of felony child abuse, five counts of indecent liberties with a child and one count of first-degree sex offense. Her bond was set at $300,000 with a next appearance set for Aug. 20.

White woman drowns rabbits, posts evidence on Facebook

Why do whites commit sick and vile acts and then post evidence of it online? Confidence or stupidity?

Akron, Ohio – Elizabeth Carlisle, a 20-year-old Ravenna woman was arrested on animal abuse charges after she drowned two injured rabbits inside a Petland store and then posted a photo of the deed on her Facebook page.

A Petland franchise located at the Chapel Hill Mall in Akron was closed down Wednesday after a photo on Carlisle’s Facebook page showed her holding dead rabbits after the animals were drowned. A caption under the photo boasted that she drowned the rabbits because they were injured.

Investigators say Carlisle posted the photograph on July 28. An entry on her page credited the store manager with taking the photograph. She went on to explain the animals were drowned after they became injured during a fight.

Petland headquarters condemned the incident, announcing it had revoked the store’s license. Animals recovered from the store are being transferred to other locations.

“Petland will in no way, shape or form tolerate any abuse of animals in it’s care,” stated officials in a press release. “We are outraged at this gross violation of Petland’s animal care standards.

Carlisle was booked into jail on two counts of harming a companion animal. She is scheduled to be arraigned on August 17.

Carlisle’s father, Joe Carlisle, defended his daughter, describing her as a respectful young woman simply working her way through college.

“She is a good, good person who is innocent totally as a human being of any and all wrongdoing,” insisted Carlisle.

Woman denies setting British man on fire

A Greek woman has appeared in court accused of setting fire to a British tourist in Crete after he allegedly groped her in a bar.

Stuart Feltham, 23, from Swindon, is recovering from second-degree chest and stomach burns in a private clinic.

Maria Fanoudaki, a 26-year-old student, said she poured a drink over Mr Feltham after he made inappropriate advances, but denied setting fire to him.

She faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison if she is convicted.

The trial in the town of Iraklion in northern Crete was adjourned until Monday.

Ms Fanoudaki’s lawyer Nikos Maniadakis said: “He fondled my client’s breasts and buttocks and she poured her drink over him and left.

“Shortly afterward she heard cries and saw her friends trying to extinguish him.”

The woman was charged with assault on Thursday after she turned herself in to police.

The story has made national headlines in Greece, where some have hailed the woman as a heroine.

Mr Feltham’s parents have insisted reports their son sexually harassed the woman were “absolute nonsense”.

Ian Feltham, 48, said his son was approached out of the blue by a complete stranger who threw accelerant over him.

Stuart Feltham was at a bar in the town of Malia at the end of a two-week holiday with five friends.

Police: Boulder man called teen racial slur, ‘Mike Tyson’

BOULDER, Colo. — A Boulder transient faces a hate-crime charge after he was accused of calling a black teenager a racial slur, referring to him as Mike Tyson and challenging him to a boxing match.

Luke Barrett, 26, was arrested on suspicion of a bias-motivated crime and child abuse at about 8:30 p.m. Friday after two teenagers waved down a police officer and reported being harassed, Boulder police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said.

The teens told officers an apparent homeless man walked up to them in the 1200 block of College Avenue and called the black 15-year-old a derogatory name before putting up his arms in a fighting stance, Huntley said.

Barrett is suspected of saying something to the effect of, “Hey Mike Tyson, let’s box,” according to Huntley. The teenager said he didn’t want to fight and stepped back. At that point, the suspect turned and started running away, she said.

The teens tried to follow, but they lost sight of him. When police arrived, the teens provided a detailed description of the suspect, and officers found him a short distance away, Huntley said.

Police stopped Barrett, and he admitted to approaching the teens and using language with the intent of “starting trouble,” Huntley said. Barrett also was under the influence of alcohol, she said.

Barrett didn’t physically assault the teenagers, but Huntley said he was arrested because “the victim was shaken by what happened.”

Children as young as five should be taught to understand the pleasures of gay sex, according to leaders of a taxpayer-funded education project.

Heads of the project have set themselves a goal of ‘creating primary classrooms where queer sexualities are affirmed and celebrated’.

The ambition was revealed in documents prepared for the No Outsiders project run by researchers from universities and backed with £600,000 of public money provided by the Economic and Social Research Council.

The stated purpose of the project – which is operating in 14 primary schools – is to stop bullying and prejudice aimed at homosexuals.

However, at a seminar at Exeter University tomorrow, supporters of the group will go beyond the anti-bullying agenda and discuss ‘pleasure and desire in educational contexts’.

A document prepared for the seminar and couched in convoluted academic jargon says: ‘The team is concerned to interrogate the desexualisation of children’s bodies, the negation of pleasure and desire in educational contexts, and the tendency to shy away from discussion of (sexual) bodily activity in No Outsiders project work.

‘The danger of accusations of the corruption of innocent children has led team members to make repeated claims that this project is not about sex or desire – and that it is therefore not about bodies.

‘Yet, at a very significant level, that is exactly what it is about and to deny this may have significant negative implications for children and young people.’

No Outsiders is led by researchers from Sunderland University and also involves academics at the Institute of Education and Exeter University. Books, puppet shows and plays are used to teach children about same-sex relationships.

During the project, the seminar paper says, its members have ‘challenged each other to go beyond imagined possibilities into queer practice’.

The seminar will ‘question the taken-for-granted of the supposedly sexless, bodiless and desire-less primary classroom’ and examine ‘the place of the research team members’ own bodies, desires and pleasures in this research’.

The discussions provoked a furious reaction from critics of the homosexual rights agenda. Simon Calvert of the Christian Institute said: ‘When an adult who is working in a primary school suggests that children should explore their sexuality, that should result in a complaint to the police.’

Patricia Morgan, author of studies of family life and gay adoption, said: ‘The proposal is that primary school classrooms should be turned into gay saunas. This is about homosexual practice in junior schools. The idiots who repealed Section 28 should consider that this is where it has got them.’

Project leader Dr Elizabeth Atkinson said the seminar had no connection with No Outsiders work in classrooms. ‘The seminar is part of a long-standing academic debate and has nothing to do with schools,’ she said. ‘It has no connection with sex education.’

Section 28, the law which banned the promotion of homosexuality in state schools, was repealed five years ago. Current guidance on sex education says it should not promote sexual orientation or sexual activity.

Suspect identified in LaGuardia bomb scare

NEW YORK (CNN) — Authorities evacuated LaGuardia Airport’s Central Terminal for several hours Saturday after a man with a bag containing wires and a battery entered the airport, a Port Authority spokesman said.

The man is in custody, and authorities have allowed passengers back into the terminal, Port Authority spokesman John Kelly said.

A law enforcement official close to the investigation identified the man as Scott McGann, 32, of New York. He had tickets on a United Airlines flight to Chicago, as well as connecting flights that would have ended in Oakland, California.

The law enforcement source said the suspect approached a security checkpoint in the Central Terminal as he was carrying a backpack with two square six-volt batteries taped together, and with wires protruding from them.

Port Authority police told him not to move, the source said, but he did not comply and appeared as though he tried to “push a switch,” but “nothing happened.”

The backpack also contained unspecified electronic devices and personal items, the source said.

McGann has three prior arrests in the New York area, the source said. The most recent involved June charges of tampering with evidence and resisting arrest. He was also arrested twice in 2008, the source said.

New York Police Department’s Deputy Commissioner for Public Information Paul Browne had told CNN earlier that the man, whom he did not identify, raised the suspicions of a Transportation Security Administration employee because he appeared “intoxicated.”

Kelly, who also didn’t identify the man, had said he “was just acting crazy,” and offered no further details.

Browne had described the man’s bag as a duffel, which he said contained batteries that were hooked up to wires.

The city’s bomb squad was called in to examine the device, Browne said, and determined that it was not dangerous.

“It was a hoax device,” he said.

Asked whether the man had said anything about a bomb, Browne said, “Clearly, it appeared he wanted people to think that’s what he had.”

The terminal was evacuated shortly after 5:20 a.m., but by midmorning, all concourses in the terminal were reopened, with the exception of Concourse C, Kelly said. Concourse C will likely reopen in a few hours, he said.

Authorities had stopped flights from taking off or landing at the airport, but by a little after 9 a.m., flights were slowly resuming, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Holly Baker said.

Central Terminal is one of four terminals in the airport, which is in the borough of Queens. It is about eight miles from Manhattan.

The incident disrupted travel plans for many passengers, including CNN iReporter Jose Ojeda, 24, who had been sitting on the tarmac on a plane headed to Chicago, Illinois, when the evacuation was ordered.

“We were all ready to go,” Ojeda, of Bronx, New York, said of his flight, which he said had been scheduled to leave at 6:10 a.m.

“They didn’t make any announcement other than, ‘You need to evacuate,’” he said. “I thought it was standard procedure, but then once we got out of the plane, they kept pushing us back and back, out of the terminal [and] out of the actual airport.

Two British law graduates charged with attempted insurance fraud in Brazil are said to be “anxious and concerned” after they were denied bail.

Shanti Andrews and Rebecca Turner, both 23, are being held in the “tough” Polinter prison, near Rio de Janeiro.

The women claim they were robbed but the police allegedly uncovered some of the items in their Rio hostel room.

Their lawyer said they could be in jail for a month. Miss Andrews’ mother said it was a “misunderstanding”.

‘Overcrowded’ conditions

Speaking from Rio, their lawyer Renato Tonini said he was appealing against the judge’s decision.

The lawyer said the two women, who were at the end of a nine-month trip around the world, were sleeping on the floor of a cell.

He said: “They are very nervous and very concerned about their situation, and anxious too.

“They are in a tough prison but they are being treated well by both other prisoners and by the administration. They are being treated as if they were Brazilian.

He said there was likely to be a decision on the “merit of the charges” in three or four weeks.

The charge carries a maximum prison sentence of more than three years, according to Mr Tonini, but they could also be fined or made to do unpaid work.

‘Mercy’ plea

The pair, who both studied at the University of Sussex, told police in Rio that belongings totalling £1,000 had been stolen during a bus journey.

They were arrested on Sunday after officers from a specialist tourist support unit apparently became suspicious that they had waited several days before reporting the robbery.

A subsequent search of their lodgings in the beach district of Copacabana allegedly uncovered some of the items.

On Wednesday the mother of Miss Andrews said it was a “misunderstanding” and asked the Brazilian authorities to show mercy.

Simone Headley, from Frant, near Tunbridge Wells in Kent, said: “The girls had some things stolen and they put a report into the police station,” she said.

“There was a misunderstanding – a couple of the items they claimed were then found in their luggage.”

How foreign exchange students are abused in America

So much for gracious hosts

SCRANTON, Pa. – In a few weeks, thousands of foreign exchange students will arrive in the United States for what they hope will be a rewarding time of study and cultural enrichment. Shortly after that, Danielle Grijalva’s phone will start ringing, and her e-mail inbox will begin filling up. It happens every year.

While most of the 30,000 exchange students who come to the U.S. each year have positive experiences, some find themselves stuck in bad homes with little prospect of getting out — especially if the agency that placed them doesn’t take their concerns seriously or even blames them for the problems.

These are Grijalva’s kids.

From her base in Oceanside, Calif., the 43-year-old stay-at-home mom has almost single-handedly taken on the foreign exchange industry, intervening in abuse cases, questioning placement agencies‘ marketing practices, and bashing the U.S. State Department for what she says is lax regulation.

The industry says she exaggerates problems and makes reckless allegations. Two defamation lawsuits have been filed against her.

But the watchdog’s complaints about the dozens of programs that import foreigners were recently borne out in northeastern Pennsylvania, where a Scranton woman was charged last week with child endangerment for allegedly placing exchange students in filthy homes with ex-convicts and not enough food. Grijalva helped one of the teens file a complaint with the State Department and offered advice to local child welfare investigators on how to proceed.

Her involvement was to be expected. Since launching her tiny nonprofit five years ago — the Committee for Safety of Foreign Exchange Students — Grijalva (gree-HAHL’-vah) has answered thousands of e-mails and phone calls from aggrieved students and their worried parents back home.

“By the time they reach CFCES, they are so exhausted and so emotional, but so elated to find someone who will say, ‘We will help you as much as we can,’” Grijalva said.

She has racked up some notable successes. Besides getting students out of bad situations, her organization successfully pushed for regulatory reform in 2006 and investigated an Allentown-based placement agency that Pennsylvania authorities shut down earlier this year.

She’s also made enemies. On a recent Sunday morning, Grijalva was served with a state lawsuit that claims she defamed one of the largest exchange programs, California-based Council for Educational Travel, USA, by making “false statements” about it while intervening in the case of a Norwegian student in Minnesota.

A French agency, Programmes Internationaux d’Echanges, and two of its U.S. affiliates sued her for defamation in North Carolina two years ago, and won a preliminary injunction against her while the case proceeds.

Grijalva, who has countersued P.I.E., says the lawsuits are intended to shut her up.

But critics complain that she paints with an overly broad brush, resulting in a distorted picture of the U.S. exchange program. Since the majority of students go home happy, they say it’s unfair and inaccurate to malign an entire industry based on scattered cases of abuse and neglect.

“She tends to speak in fairly broad generalizations that are probably pretty hard to prove,” said John Hishmeh, executive director of the industry’s accrediting body, the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel. “When you look at (the recent Pennsylvania scandal) and somebody says, ‘That’s how they all are,’ that’s reckless.”

Grijalva makes no apologies for her activism or her tactics.

“Some people are trying to say I have an agenda, a vendetta. We’re talking about the health, safety and welfare of children that are treated like cars being moved off the lot,” she said. “This is not about me. This is about the efforts of CSFES to protect these kids.”

In that regard, she has a lot of satisfied customers.

Danish student Emily Larsen says her host family in Denver belonged to a fundamentalist church that denounced Jews, Muslims, homosexuals and others. Larsen, who was raised secular, says she was made to go to the church 10 hours a week, and that it “brainwashed” her and pressured her to join. When her placement counselor ignored her pleas for help, she turned to CSFES.

“I felt like my whole life was totally falling apart,” said Larsen, of Copenhagen, whose experience left her so traumatized that she has been seeing a psychologist. “In two days, Danielle got me out.”

Nemesia Lago, a Colombian whose teenage son was one of five exchange students found to be living in deplorable conditions in Scranton, says Grijalva responded immediately to her request for help and was dogged in her advocacy. “She became like an angel,” Lago, of La Guajira, wrote in an e-mail.

Grijalva says exchange agencies often bring students to the U.S. without first securing host families for them, leading to hasty, ill-advised placements like the ones in northeastern Pennsylvania. And many agencies require students to first approach their local coordinators with problems, threatening them with repatriation if they seek outside help.

She used to be part of the industry, working as a placement counselor between 2002 and 2004 and taking pride in matching exchange students with caring, qualified host families. But she was disturbed by her company’s marketing practices, and quit the business altogether in the wake of a case of sexual abuse — involving a placement by another representative — that she says the company tried to cover up.

Shortly thereafter, Grijalva began CSFES, which she operates on a shoestring, relying on a network of more than 1,000 volunteers around the country. A former legal secretary who left the work force 13 years ago to raise her three children, she is close to finishing her college degree and plans to go to law school.

Lana Simovic of Podgorica, Montenegro says her son was sent home by his exchange agency after only two months for what she described as relatively minor rules violations, prompting a State Department inquiry into the program’s actions. She called Grijalva a godsend.

“Danielle Grijalva is (the) only person that gave me hope that in America there are reasonable people,” she wrote in an e-mail.

LONGMONT, Colo. — A 53-year-old Longmont woman was arrested Wednesday on suspicion that she drugged a male friend during a backyard barbecue and then raped him, police said.

Janice Lynette McCarl was booked into the Boulder County Jail at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday on suspicion of sexual assault, a class-three felony.

Longmont police Cmdr. Tim Lewis said reports of female-on-male rape are very rare; one victims’ advocate said this was only the second local instance she could remember happening within the past decade.

Lewis said McCarl is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with a 50-year-old male friend.

“She allegedly took unwanted advantage of this friend in a manner he did not want or approve of,” Lewis said.

The man told detectives the incident happened on Nov. 9 at his Longmont house and involved “unwanted penetration.”

A police report released Thursday details the graphic allegations.

The man reported that he was at a barbecue at his home with McCarl.

He said he felt “funny” after some drinks — which he later told investigators were drugged — and went inside and passed out.

About a half-hour later, he claims, he awoke with a painful sensation. He said he remembered waking up intermittently with the woman’s “hands in him.”

He said he could not fully wake up or move, and remembered the woman telling him, “It is OK, go back to sleep.”

He told detectives he recalled waking up the next morning to find the woman sleeping next to him — her shirt covered in blood and lotion, and a bottle of Lubriderm on the table near the woman.

In response to his questions about what happened, McCarl allegedly laughed and said, “What did I do, kill somebody?”

They had coffee together and she left, according to the report.

The man said he spoke with the woman later on and she admitted to drugging him that night, but would not say what she used.

“She apologized to him and he told her that was mean, nasty and disgusting,” police wrote in the report.

Detectives have been investigating the report since then, police said, and arrested McCarl on a warrant.

Lewis, the Longmont commander, said McCarl and the man had a consensual intimate relationship prior to the incident.

On Thursday, a Boulder County judge set McCarl’s bond at $10,000. He denied her request to reduce bond.

According to records with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, McCarl has two arrests in 2000 for using fraud to obtain dangerous drugs and possession of dangerous drugs.

Janine D’Anniballe, the executive director of Boulder’s Moving to End Sexual Assault, said the Longmont case is only the second time in her 10 years with the agency that she’s heard of such an incident.

“These types of cases, where there is an adult woman with an adult male, are very rare,” she said. “Certainly, women can be offenders, but usually their victims are children or young adults. Men can be victims, but usually as children or young adults or with male perpetrators.”

D’Anniballe said there is often a stigma associated with anyone who is a victim of a sexual assault, but that effect is magnified for male victims.

“There’s this idea that, because he’s a man, he should have just enjoyed it,” she said. “In this case, that is a gross misstatement.

“I think what he did by coming forward is extremely brave. It is no less a rape than any other kind of rape. We need to be supportive and understanding.”

This is the dramatic moment a terrified tourist nearly had her head bitten off by a huge crocodile.

The woman had been on a boat trip when her tour guide tried to attract the seemingly docile croc by banging a stick against the side.

The move had the desired effect because within a split second it leapt clear of the water with its jaws wide open.

The unnamed German tourist was left shaking like a leaf and said it was the most terrifying experience of her life.

Paul Stodolny, 29, got his camera out when he spotted the lazy-looking crocodile drifting in the water and continued snapping as it flew out of the water.

Mr Stodolny, from Toronto, Canada, said: ‘I couldn’t believe it even happened, let alone that I caught it on camera.

‘I was on a trip to Costa Rica with my girlfriend Cheyenne and we were on a river cruise to try and see some nature.

‘As we were going down the river we saw another boat stopping to take pictures of this crocodile floating in the water.

‘The tour guide of that boat was luring the crocodile closer by tapping a stick in the water. It started to get really close and as the tour guide pulled the stick out of the water, the crocodile followed it.

‘Before we knew it, this croc just leapt out of the water and seemed to lunge at this poor woman – I think her face says it all.

‘Everyone on the boat gasped and bolted backwards – it was much too close for comfort. After the croc had shown them who was boss, it disappeared back into the water as the woman tried to catch her breath.’

Mr Stodolny, who works for an animation studio, said it was not until later that he realised how lucky the woman was to escape uninjured.

He said: ‘It all happened so quickly, it was only when I got a chance to look at my photos that I saw how close it actually got.

‘We didn’t know the woman before this, but we actually bumped into her at a restaurant later on in the trip and showed her the photo.

‘She said she’d never experienced anything so scary in her life. All she could see was teeth coming at her. I was thrilled to get the photo, it really was a once-in-a lifetime shot.’

Wannabe Samurai fatally stabs girlfriend

Newark, DE – Michael Kolesar, 21, was arrested Sunday after fatally stabbing his girlfriend with a four-foot long samurai sword.

According to the New Castle County Police, Kolesar and his girlfriend, Angel Zurlo, became engaged in an argument after leaving a bar. The fight reportedly became physical when they got home.

Police were dispatched on a call about a stabbing that involved the use of a sword. When officers arrived on scene, Kolesar greeted them at the door, urging: “She’s in there, she’s in there, she’s dying, please come help her.”

Officers found Zurlo dead in the back room of the apartment. As police took Kolesar into custody, he reportedly pleaded with them, saying “I didn’t mean to do it, I killed her, she means everything to me,” according to the arrest report.

A witness told police Zurlo carried the sword into the room. When Kolesar tried to grab the sword away, they struggled with the sword until Zurlo became severly injured.

Kolesar told police he was intoxicated and remembers choking – but not stabbing Zurlo. He said he was “in a rage and probably at fault,” according to the arrest report.

Kolesar was booked into the Newcastle County Jail on charges of manslaughter and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. A second male arrested at the scene was released without charges.

White man arrested for making terrorist threats against telemarketer

So what else is new? Why not just hang up?

Fostoria, OH – Charles W. Papenfus, 43, was arrested after he reportedly threatened a telemarketer – stating that he would burn down their building and kill the employee’s families.

According to the suspect’s attorney, the fiasco began when an extended warranty company contacted Papenfus to inform him the factory warranty on his Ford Focus had expired.

Papenfus reportedly became upset because he had purchased the vehicle as a used car that hadn’t been covered by the factory for years. He repeatedly asked the telemarketer why they were calling him about a warranty for a car he purchased used for $3,000.

After hanging up, Papenfus reportedly called the telemarketer back to complain again. The exchange between Papenfus and the telemarketer degenerated into a verbal confrontation where both parties began insulting each other, according Papenfus‘ attorney.

During the confrontation, Papenfus allegedly threatened to burn down the telemarketing firm’s building and kill the families of those employed by the company, according to court documents.

Prosecutors say Papenfus‘ delivered the threats “without provocation” and went so far as to identify specific workers he intended to target. Papenfus‘ wife blamed the outburst on prescription painkillers that she claimed he was taking for a wrist injury.

Papenfus was booked into the St. Louis City Jail on charges of making terroristic threats. Bond has now been set at $40,000.

A Mansfield man crept into the home of his former girlfriend early yesterday and, believing he was acting on God’s orders, slit their 6-year-old daughter’s throat, authorities said.

Worried that the mother planned to move away with young Kaitlynn, Kristopher L. Griffin slashed a window screen and clambered through a bulkhead before killing the girl, a prosecutor said in court yesterday.

“The defendant indicated that the only way he could save his daughter was to kill her, that God ordered him to do it,’’ said Cynthia Brackett, an assistant Bristol district attorney, recounting an interview Griffin gave to police.

The 35-year-old Griffin left a note seeking “forgiveness for sending Katie to heaven’’ and begged police to shoot him after he was picked up wandering barefoot in the rain in the quiet before dawn, according to police. But in court yesterday he said nothing, staring at the floor and sobbing as he faced charges of murder and home invasion. A plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.

The judge ordered Griffin held without bail until his next court appearance in August and directed he undergo psychiatric evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital.

“I think it’s pretty apparent that there are some serious mental health issues here,’’ Joseph Krowski, Griffin’s public counsel, said after the arraignment.

The ghastly nature of the slaying stunned police and local residents. “It’s horrific and heartbreaking; there’s no other way to say it,’’ Mansfield Police Chief Arthur M. O’Neill said.

After investigators had finished collecting evidence from the Chilson Avenue duplex where Kaitlynn was killed, her tiny bicycle remained in the driveway, resting on training wheels. A pink helmet dangled from the handlebars, matching the frame. Neighbor Jimbo Tardivo choked up as he considered it. Kaitlynn would wave and tell playful stories from her second-floor window whenever she saw him below, he said.

“She was a little peanut, a little star in that window, and I’m going to miss her,’’ Tardivo said, his chest heaving under a Harley-Davidson T-shirt as he sobbed. “She was so adorable.’’

Tardivo said Griffin and his girlfriend, who was not identified by police, appeared to have a rocky relationship. Police and prosecutors said the couple broke up two weeks ago, and Griffin went to live in a camper in the yard of a friend’s house on Ware Street, 1 1/2 miles away.

At about 4:05 yesterday morning, the owners of that house called 911 to say that Griffin, who authorities say has been hospitalized multiple times for mental illness, had disappeared and might be in danger of harming himself. Twelve minutes later, the homeowners called again to say that they had discovered a frightening note indicating that Griffin’s daughter could be in danger.In between those calls, Officer Joshua Ellender discovered Griffin wandering on East Street barefoot but wearing a backpack. Appearing calm, Griffin told the officer that he had merely gone for a walk to an all-night pharmacy to get medication, and he accepted a ride home.

Back on Ware Street, one of the homeowners approached the cruiser and told the officer about the note. According to the officer’s report, Ellender asked Griffin if he had hurt anyone, and he replied: “Yes. . . . She’s gone, I had to save her, I killed my little girl.’’

Griffin, with blood staining his cheek and chin, shouted that he wanted to die, banged his head against the police cruiser’s glass, and begged to be shot, Ellender wrote. Griffin handed over the backpack containing the knife he allegedly used to kill his daughter and told police she could be found in the basement of the Chilson Avenue home.

At the same time, other officers were on their way to the yellow, two-family house. When they arrived, the child’s mother told them she thought the girl was asleep in bed. But police found her under a blanket in the basement, her throat slit, O’Neill said.

Taken to the station for booking, Griffin asked police if Massachusetts had the death penalty. Told it did not, he became disconsolate and tried to hit his head against the wall, prompting officers to handcuff Griffin to a bar to prevent him from harming himself, police said.

His clothing removed for evidence, Griffin appeared in an open-backed johnny yesterday in Taunton District Court, under the jurisdiction of Attleboro District Court, which was displaced from its own courthouse by a fire. At 5-foot-5, the 235-pound Griffin was dwarfed by the court officers who flanked him.

O’Neill, the Mansfield chief, said Griffin had no record of violence in the seven or eight years since he moved to the area from Florida.

But criminal records in that state show Griffin was arrested in 1999 by the Jacksonville sheriff’s office on an aggravated-assault charge for a reported domestic incident, but the charge was apparently dropped.

A spokeswoman for the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families said she could not comment on whether the department had been involved with the family.

Muncie, Ind. – James C. Storie, a 33-year-old Indiana man was arrested Tuesday after switching seats with a 12-year-old girl to avoid a drunk driving arrest in his car.

According to the Deleware County Sheriff’s Office, Storie was driving his Chevy minivan when he caught the attention of a sheriff’s deputy who was passing by him.

When Storie noticed the deputy was turning around to pursue him, he quickly switched seats with a 12-year-old passenger, according to Dep. Bill Curtis of the Delaware Sheriff’s Office.

After the deputy stopped the vehicle, he found the 12-year-old behind the wheel along with Storie and two other pre-teen passengers. An odor of alcohol prompted the deputy to administer a breath test to Storie.

Storie reportedly blew a 0.17 bac (twice the Indiana legal limit of 0.08) and was found to be driving with a suspended driver’s license. He also had numerous warrants for his arrest in regards to unpaid child support.

Storie was booked into the Delaware County Jail on charges of neglect of a dependent, DUI and driving while suspended.

Storie has prior convictions for resisting arrest, false informing, DUI, public intoxication, disorderly conduct and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police said Stephen L. Thompson, 58, urinated in the chair at the Clark County government building after the office closed Tuesday night.

After court reporter Adrianne Fuller noticed stains on her chair four times over the past two months investigators installed a camera in her office.According to the investigation report, video recorded Wednesday showed Thompson, a maintenance worker at the building, urinating in her chair.

He’s charged with two felony counts of attempted battery by bodily waste. Each charge carries a sentence of six months to three years in prison.

Sexy Sasha was arrested earlier this month when she solicited prostitution out of her apartment. During that arrest, cops confiscated heroin, syringes, a scale and multiple sexually-related items. (police can confiscate sex toys?)

Huntington, W.V. – Police in Huntington nabbed four girls who can appreciate a slow economy. An undercover police sting uncovered girls who allegedly offered sex for $20 to $40. Amber Billups and Lillie Collins were charged with misdemeanor prostitution – as it was their first offense.

Billips evoked a tear of sympathy when she explained that her husband was her pimp and had forced her become a hooker to support his drug habit. Police soon got over it and took her to jail anyway.

Silbert got a misdemeanor prostitution charge as this was only her second time at bat. She decided to fight inflation by keeping her rates as low as $30. Don’t say she never gave you anything.

Bowling, however was not so lucky. Cops say this is her third go-round which earns her a nifty felony charge for prostitution. Rates for Bowling began at $40 and jump to $125 if you want her to actually do something.

Hamilton, Ohio – Yes, the Vice units in Ohio have been busy this month as police nabbed four women during a July 1st prostitution sting.

Carol Cope and Tanya Wilson was arrested for soliciting prostitution while Rebecca Zornes and Karen Woods were caught “loitering” in an alleged attempt to engage in prostitution.

Zornes apparently failed to show up for her arraignment – so cops were nice enough to give her ride to jail/court. Both women were also charged with drug related offenses.

Conway, S.C. - Edward Jacob Bilton, a 38-year-old South Carolina man is accused of beating a woman and her son, attempting to burn their house to the ground, and strangling a cat.

Horry County Police claim Bilton succeeded in killing the family’s cat but failed to destroy the house.

According to his arrest affidavit, Bilton wreaked havoc on Saturday night at the home where he was the live-in boyfriend of a woman with a young son.

Police were alerted to a domestic dispute, where they found the house partially covered in gasoline. Entering the residence, they were met with the hysterical woman, who charged her boyfriend with a litany of crimes.

The victims claim it all started when Bilton screamed at the boy for playing too many video games. The woman attempted to intervene in the argument, but Bilton began choking her. When the child stood up for his mother, he allegedly got a severe beating about the face.

Bilton then left the residence and acquired a can of gasoline, and he proceeded to douse the house with it, yelling that he was about to burn it down. It is not clear why he stopped there or when the family cat was killed.

Bilton, who is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Horry County, is charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, attempted arson, ill treatment of animals/animal cruelty, and assault and battery.

White man jailed after breaking into house, and raping the owner’s dog

Farmington, W. Va. – Christopher Bagwell, a 26-year-old West Virginia man was arrested after breaking into home, having sex with home owner’s dog.

Bagwell allegedly broke into a home in the area and raped an Australian shepherd/border collie mix dog. The owner was away at work, according to a witness’ report.

The witness, Sierra Hayhurst, arrived at the house on the afternoon of July 8th to return items she had borrowed from the owner. She claims that while standing in the doorway, she spotted the suspect having sexual intercourse with the male dog, which “was making an awful sound.”

She then shouted at Bagwell, calling him a “sick bastard” until he pulled up his pants and dismounted the dog. He then started toward her in a threatening manner, according to police reports.

“His pants were down around his ankles and the dog was making an awful sound,” stated the witness in the arrest complaint.

At this point, Hayhurst called Farmington Police, who soon arrived and promptly arrested Bagwell on felony burglarly and animal cruelty charges. Police allege Bagwell also damaged property in the home while looting it for an undisclosed reason.

Bagwell was booked into the local jail but quickly bonded out.

ELGIN, Iowa (AP) – A man faces criminal mischief charges after he allegedly defecated on a downtown Elgin sidewalk and smeared feces on the door of a building. Authorities said the building houses the Valley Community Coalition. Officials believe the man targeted the organization, but they aren’t sure why.

Matthew J. Sodoma, 21, was arrested early Thursday and was also charged with defecating on a public sidewalk or building

Fayette County Sheriff Marty Fisher said the man’s action defies the basic morals of the community and was unacceptable.

Authorities said the charges are misdemeanors and are punishable by a fine between $65 and $650 and up to 30 days in jail.

But another Sydney beautician, asked about her anal lightening equipment, produces a completely different product altogether. It’s a cream that clearly states it is designed to be used on hair. ‘Unbelievable’: An NHS leaflet is telling school pupils they have a ‘right’ to an enjoyable sex life and that ‘an orgasm a day keeps the doctor away’

The NHS is telling school pupils they have a ‘right’ to an enjoyable sex life and that it is good for their health.

A Health Service leaflet says experts concentrate too much on the need for safe sex and loving relationships, and not enough on the pleasure it can bring.

But family campaigners last night condemned the guidance, saying it encouraged underage sex and could increase rates of sexually-transmitted diseases.

Under the heading ‘an orgasm a day keeps the doctor away’, the leaflet says: ‘Health promotion experts advocate five portions of fruit and veg a day and 30 minutes physical activity three times a week. What about sex or masturbation twice a week?’

The advice, which also claims regular sex is good for cardiovascular health, has been circulated to parents, teachers and youth workers.

It came to light just a week after it emerged that teenagers who took part in a £6million Government initiative to reduce teenage pregnancies were more than twice as likely to fall pregnant as other girls.

The scheme tried to persuade girls not to get pregnant by handing out condoms and teaching them about sex.

The NHS leaflet has been drawn up by Sheffield primary care trust and is entitled Pleasure.

Its author, Steve Slack, director of the Centre for HIV and Sexual Health at NHS Sheffield, defended it by saying the advice could encourage young people to delay losing their virginity until they are sure they will enjoy the experience.

He added that as long as teenagers are fully informed about sex and making decisions free of peer pressure as part of a caring relationship, they have as much right as an adult to a good sex life.

‘It is unbelievable that this is being sent to schools’, he said.

‘I’d like to know what scientific evidence there is to back this up. There are an awful lot of overpaid and under-occupied health promotion officers around who are obsessed with sex.’

He added that inciting underage sex was ‘nothing less than encouraging child abuse’.

‘If the NHS wants to promote a healthy heart, as it says it does in this leaflet, it should put the money into reducing smoking and alcohol,’ he said. ‘Underage sex is as dangerous as underage drink and usually leads to sexual ill-health.’

About 40,000 teenagers become pregnant every year in the UK – the highest level in western Europe. More than half end in abortion.

White meth addict sets girlfriend on fire

TULSA, OK – Tulsa Police are looking for help in finding Kenneth McCurley, a 23-year-old white male accused of setting his girlfriend on fire Friday afternoon.

“He threw gasoline on her and lit her on fire,” said Public Information Officer Bill French with the Tulsa Fire Department. French said that the woman was alive as of about 4:10 p.m. Friday, according to the chief fire investigator.

The 33-year-old woman is suffering from second and third degree burns over at least 80% of her body after an apparent domestic abuse incident at what she says is an operating meth lab.  She told Tulsa Fire investigators that she was arguing with McCurley when he threw a chemical on her and set her on fire.

She is in critical condition at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa. She was able to extinguish the fire before firefighters arrived at 1:20 p.m., according to Officer Jason Willingham of the Tulsa Police Department.

Police found some components for manufacturing meth inside the house in the 300 block of East 4th St., though they are not calling it an active meth lab at this time.

Tulsa Police say the boyfriend was not in the house when they gained entry to the house, wearing hazardous materials masks and equipment.

The woman was on the front porch when firefighters arrived just after 1 p.m., according to Public Information Officer Bill French with the Tulsa Fire Department.

She told firefighters that her boyfriend had poured gasoline on her and that he was inside the house cooking meth, French said. She had burns from the neck down, according to the report.

White woman brings Grandchild along for Drug Deal

Blue Ash, Ohio – Tammara Hartman, a 46-year-old Blue Ash, Ohio woman has been arrested for bringing her granddaughter along on a drug deal.

Police alleged Hartman had 17 grams of cocaine on her person at the time of her Tuesday arrest and have charged her with drug trafficking. According to police sources, this is at least the woman’s third arrest on crack-dealing charges.

Authorities also allege Hartman brought the five-year-old granddaughter along on a previous drug deal.

She is currently being held in a jail in Lockland on an $11,000 bond.

French tourists seen as world’s worst: survey

PARIS– French tourists are the worst in the world, coming across as bad at foreign languages, tight-fisted and arrogant, according to a survey of 4,500 hotel owners across the world.

They finish in last place in the survey carried out for internet travel agency Expedia by polling company TNS Infratest, which said French holidaymakers don’t speak local languages and are seen as impolite.

“It’s mainly the fact that they speak little or no English when they’re abroad, and they don’t speak much of the local language,” Expedia Marketing Director Timothee de Roux told radio station France Info.

“The French don’t go abroad very much. We’re lucky enough to have a country which is magnificent in terms of its landscape and culture,” he said, adding that 90 per cent of French people did their traveling at home.

“So when they’re on holiday they can be a bit stressed, they’re not used to things, and this can lead them to be demanding in a way which could be seen as a certain arrogance.”

French tourists are also accused of generally spending less than other nationalities when abroad.

De Roux said the French, not accustomed to leaving large tips at home where a service charge is automatically levied on restaurant bills, can seem “tight-fisted” compared with other nationalities.

The Japanese ranked top of the Best Tourist survey, with the British and the Germans judged the best of the Europeans.

But French tourists received some consolation for their poor performance, finishing third after the Italians and British for dress sense while on holiday.

American Crystal Defanti handed children in her class a DVD meant to be full of memories of the school year as they went on summer holiday.

But the 29-year-old’s editing skills leave something to be desired.

One father told local media that DVD included a scene with the children, aged 10-11, in a classroom sharing stories.

Then, he said, the content changed.

‘My son’s reaction was, “Dad, is that Ms Defanti?”‘ he said.

‘We were up until midnight doing [the] birds and bees.’

Ms Defanti was battling to save her career following the embarrassing mistake

Ms Defanti, a teacher at Isabelle Jackson Elementary school in Elk Grove, California, only realised her mistake when one particularly concerned parent called to inform her what happened.

She called parents the day after the DVD was distributed, crying and apologising for her actions.

‘All she could say was that it was a horrible mix-up,’ the unnamed father said.

Jenson Beach, Florida  – Sometimes you just got to have a cigarette and sometimes people around you, like John Jeffrey Murray, a 51-year-old Jensen Beach, Florida man will take you to task for it.

Murray was arrested on domestic battery charges after allegedly dousing his wife with a blast from a hose, then hitting her in the mouth when she tried to light up.

According to an affidavit from Martin County Police, Murray and his unnamed wife began arguing on Saturday night over his wife’s nicotine addiction and her smoking in the house.

The victim claims that Murray yelled at her and then hit her with a stream of water from the house, soaking her. She then proceeded to pick up a nearby telephone, allegedly only to phone a friend, but Murray became concerned that she would call the police and he reached for the phone.

According to reports, Murray accidentally struck his wife in the mouth with his elbow in the ensuing struggle. Martin County deputies arrived to find the soaked wife lying on the lawn and Murray casually watering the lawn, according to the arrest affidavit.

The accused claimed that he had only been watering the grass and the soaking was an accident. He used the term “over spray” to describe the incident.Murray was charged at the Martin County Jail and has been released on bond.

Uefa tightens anti-racism rules

Uefa has given referees the power to abandon matches in the event of racist chanting inside a stadium.

European football’s governing body has implemented a three-step procedure that comes into force with immediate effect.

The referee should first demand over the public address system that fans’ racist behaviour should stop.

The next step is to suspend the match for up to 10 minutes with the teams sent to the dressing room. If that does not work, the game should be abandoned.

Uefa president Michel Platini said there would be no compromise in his organisation’s stance against racism in football.

“Our policy on racism is one of zero tolerance,” said Platini.

“It was necessary to give the pitch people the means to do something, and we have determined the parameters and lines of conduct, whereby in important cases of racist behaviour in a stadium, a referee must stop the match.

“There are people of authority such as the referee and match delegate who can consult before deciding to temporarily suspend a match for five or 10 minutes, in agreement with officials responsible for security – and from then, if the atmosphere remains negative, the match must be stopped.”

Platini first revealed plans to abandon matches in April of this year after Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli was racially abused by Juventus fans.

The Italian authorities ordered Juve to play their next home league game behind closed doors.

CHARLESTON – Charleston police on Friday arrested a man who is a member of a West Side family who lived near where an elderly woman was killed and have been linked to the suspect in the murder investigation.

Ferris Eugene Mallo, 29, was wanted on three counts each of first-degree sexual assault and burglary, according to Charleston police.

He turned himself in to Nitro police about 2:30 p.m., according to a release from that department.

Police say he broke into his ex-wife’s home a raped her.

Mallo’s arrest is the latest police action in a string of arrests that could be related to the death of 82-year-old Phyllis Jean Phares.

On Wednesday, officers arrested a 14-year-old in the death of Phares. Police said the suspect is not related to the victim.

On Thursday, Charleston Police Sergent Autumn Davis announced that 67-year-old Alexander Mallo, his wife, 55-year-old Carolyn Mallo, and their daughter 27-year-old Trina Mallo had been taken into custody.

They were charged with child neglect creating risk of injury, which is a felony. The victims were two juveniles who were family members.

The Mallos lived across the street from Phares and neighbors living in the area said they were relatives of the boy accused of killing Phares.

Davis said the Mallo’s home was in “deplorable” condition and “unfit for human living.” She said the home was filled with cockroaches and broken glass. She also said there were prescription drugs, knives and swords within reach of the children who lived there.

Davis refused to say if the Mallos were related to the suspect.

Charleston police were called to Phares’ home on the 1300 block of Frame Street about 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Gun-toting parishioners attended Pastor Ken Pagano’s service in Kentucky

A pastor in the US state of Kentucky told his flock to bring handguns to church in what he said was an effort to promote safe gun ownership.

Pastor Ken Pagano told parishioners to bring their unloaded guns to New Bethel Church in Louisville for a service celebrating the right to bear arms.

He said he acted after church members voiced fears the Obama administration could tighten gun control laws.

When the service began, some 200 people were present, AP news agency said.

“We are wanting to send a message that there are legal, civil, intelligent and law-abiding citizens who also own guns,” Mr Pagano told the congregation.

“If it were not for a deep-seated belief in the right to bear arms, this country would not be here today,” he said.

The pastor also held a handgun raffle, as well as providing information on gun safety.

“I wish more churches did this, I wish more people did this,” the Louisville Courier-Journal quoted one attendee, Doreen Rogers, as saying.

“For some reason, most people think that carrying guns is sinful. It’s not. I think my life is worth protecting.”

About 10 members of a private local militia also attended, the Courier-Journal said.

A coalition of religious groups and campaigners held a rival gun-free event at the same time on the other side of Louisville.

“The idea of wearing guns to churches or any sacred space I think many people find deeply troubling,” organiser Terry Taylor told AP.

In the US, the right to bear arms is enshrined in the Second Amendment of the US Constitution. There are thought to be more than 200 million firearms in private hands.

But some gun owners fear that the new administration in the White House could try to challenge or amend some gun ownership laws.

Critics of the laws, meanwhile, link high levels of gun crime with high levels of gun ownership.
